Viking Line halves food waste on board

In less than a year, Viking Line, in collaboration with Gothenburg company Generation Waste, has almost halved food waste on the ships Viking Glory and Viking Grace. The reduction is largely based on careful analyzes and adjustments in the way the restaurant kitchen works on board.

It is not possible to completely eliminate the presence of food waste in a restaurant business, but the waste can also be used more sustainably. The food waste from Viking Grace, Viking Glory and Viking XPRS (which operates between Helsinki and Tallinn) is used as a feedstock for biogas.

Major knowledge gaps about SJ and rail

After a period of major disruptions to train traffic, SJ takes over to improve its parts in the complex railway ecosystem. But the responsibility issues have to be right. Today, there are many major misconceptions about SJ and the entire rail system, according to a new report from the Indicator Advisory.

The indicator’s survey measures awareness of SJ and the railway system in Sweden over a period of 18 years. It shows, among other things, the following question marks that need to be corrected:

  • Almost every other Don’t know that SJ is a state owned company. Instead, more than one in four believe that SJ is a company or an authority.
  • More than any other Belly believes that SJ is funded through state subsidies, i.e. directly allocated tax dollars.
  • Two out of three Don’t know what SJ’s main mission is at all. It aims to boost business passenger traffic and make market profits.
  • A little more than two out of three Guess SJ is still responsible for the state railways. It has been almost 25 years since the state railways were closed down.
