Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon recently sat down for a long interview with the Athletic. Although many topics were discussed, a consistent theme that Langdon has no plans to hurry things up with the Pistons Young Core. Langdon is going to be patient, while prioritizing building around his younger players.
“We want to see what the ceilings of those boys are. It keeps putting players who can continue to help them grow, develop and reach their potential,” Langdon said. “That is one thing that we try to be as good as possible, which is sometimes something that can be a challenge. Of course you want to get better, but we are very aware of what the timing is. We want our boys to continue to develop and at least be close to their ceiling or potential.
Despite the pistons who made the play -offs, Langdon said that they still don’t know exactly how all young players fit together. The Detroit head office is still evaluating the schedule and what they need in the long term.
“I don’t think we really understand who our players can be right now,” Langdon said. “I just think it is too early for us to really understand the best way to press the proverbial accelerator pedal now. So we will try to be patient with it and let our young boys develop.”
