Alexander Zverev and Karen Khahanov will give up in their career for the eighth time when they collide in the National Bank Open Semifinals on Wednesday.

Zverev leads the head-to-head series 5-2, including 3-1 on hard jobs in the open air. He has absolutely owned Khachanov lately and dominates their last three meetings in straight sets without no set more competitive than 6-4. The German rolled 6-3, 6-1 in the gold medal match at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, 6-1, 6-4 on the Miami Masters 2024 and 6-3, 6-2 at the Cincinnati Masters 2024.

The recent struggles of Zverev are not significant enough to suggest that his control of this matchup will suddenly end. It is not as if he is in a completely terrible form. The 28-year-old still registers at number 3 in the world and he is also third in the race to Turin. After reaching a final (Stuttgart) and another semi -final (Halle) on grass, Zverev made progress in Toronto with victories over Adam Walton, Matteo Arnaldi, Francisco Cerundolo and title defender Alexei Pofyrin.

Khachanov is until the last four thanks to the defeats of Juan Pablo Ficovich, Emilio Nava, Casper Ruud and Alex Michelsen. The 16th ranking is still a modest 26-16 for the season and remains looking for his first final performance.

With one of his Nemeses on the other side of the net, Khahanov will wait to play in a title match this year will probably continue.

Pick: Beasts and 2
