On Saturday, December 13, 2025, Topspin Table Tennis Club, based in Quebec, County Durham, proudly hosted its sixth Women’s and Girls’ Day, an event that continues to grow in popularity and impact every year. The day was expertly organized by Clare Flynn and Rita Dixon, whose dedication and passion for promoting women’s table tennis was evident in every aspect of the event.
The aim of Women’s and Girls’ Days at Topspin TTC is simple but powerful: to inspire women and girls to play table tennis in a safe, supportive and inspiring environment. These days celebrate not only the sport itself, but also fun, friendship, togetherness and confidence building, making them welcome for players of all backgrounds and experience levels.
This year’s event was a huge success, with 31 women and girls in attendance, ranging in age from just 6 years old to a whopping 82 years old. Players traveled from across the region including Durham, Newcastle, Sunderland, Cleveland and North Yorkshire, highlighting the strong reputation Topspin TTC has built for inclusive and enjoyable women’s events.
The day was particularly memorable as it was one of the first major events to be held at Topspin TTC’s beautiful new venue, following the recent relocation of the club’s women’s division, Topspinners. The new space features nine top quality tables, providing excellent playing conditions and exciting opportunities for the club to continue to grow and develop in the years to come.
Throughout the day, players had plenty of opportunities to play against women of all ages and levels, encouraging learning, confidence and connection. The room was filled with laughter, encouragement and positive energy, and it was clear that everyone – whether a beginner or an experienced player – felt welcome and supported.
Adding to the warm atmosphere was the ever-popular Topspinners’ Café, located on the stage. It proved to be a big hit and offered a tempting selection of delicious home baked goods, which the players thoroughly enjoyed between matches.
The feedback from the day was overwhelmingly positive, with the club’s guestbook full of lovely comments, including:
“A wonderful day with lovely people.”
“I had a great day. It was well organized in a beautiful location. Great atmosphere!”
“Fantastic day! Great to see so many women having so much fun together!”
Members also generously donated raffle prizes, with proceeds raised for the Alzheimer’s Society, the Jamaica Hurricane Relief Fund and the Topspin Table Tennis Club itself, further reflecting the strong sense of community and generosity within the club.
Anyone interested in joining Topspinners or Topspin TTC is encouraged to contact club coach Clare Flynn. Clare runs a number of weekly practice sessions for both men and women, as well as a special weekly coaching session exclusively for women, providing players with excellent opportunities to develop their skills in a supportive environment.
With the success of this event there is plenty to look forward to, so make sure you look out for more events from Topspinners TTC throughout the year.
