King Of Roseau have outdone their rivals at Randwick to make it two wins in a row
Tom Sherry’s determination to ride King Of Roseau at a light weight was rewarded with the sprinter taking a storming victory in the Group Three Liverpool City Cup at Randwick.
“He was 110 pounds today, so he tested me a little bit this morning. I was glad everything went well,” Sherry said.
“We had the right run in the race today. He accelerated extremely well.”
Fourth in the 2024 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) at two and twice listed at three, it is as an older horse that King Of Roseau is really on the right track.
He claimed the Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) at Flemington in August and produced his trademark big finish again last month by capturing the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) on the Gold Coast.
“We saw what he did in Melbourne in the Aurie’s Star and in the Magic Millions. He was an absolute revelation in his last few preparations,” said Aaron Lau, assistant to trainer Peter Snowden.
“When he’s singing, he has a deadly foot movement.”
King Of Roseau has been campaigning since November, even though Snowden has staggered his runs, but Lau is unsure how much deeper he will go into preparation now that the big carnival races are just around the corner.
“We will think about it carefully. The races only get tougher from here and he is probably a few rungs behind those top liners,” Lau said.
“But if we put him in the right races, he will definitely make his presence felt.”
King Of Roseau ($8.50) unleashed a devastating sprint from the field to score by 1-1/4 lengths over Enriched ($7.50), while Axius ($4.40) was once again ahead in third.
