The veteran of Manchester United Tom Heaton has opened his new role in the leadership group of Ruben Amorim.
United Experience
The 39-year-old spent from 2002-2010 in the club in various youth teams.
However, he did not succeed in starting the first team and continued with successful spells at clubs such as Burnley and Aston Villa.
Heaton joined the club in 2021 as a third choice -keeper and made three senior performances during his return.
New leadership group
During the preseason, it was announced that Ruben Amorim had chosen a six -member leadership group to help organize the dressing room and Heaton was a member of this leadership team.
Heaton explained his role in detail during the Ground Guru Podcast.
He claimed: “For me I think that as a senior player you are trying to influence the different players, the group, the employees in a positive way. I think that with my own personal background in the football club is to try to understand people from the values, what is going on, what his ambitions are, what the requirements are, what the requirements are.”
The keeper added that he feels happy that he “grows up in the football club and to see it very closely for a very successful period.”
Bad why the new leadership group came about, he stated: “So in terms of the new leadership group, you know it was a new season, the manager started, he wanted some support around him and the captain Bruno Fernandes to help and he really gave the new leadership group some power in and around the dressing room.”
Responsibility
Heaton referred to the fact that responsibility may have been a problem at the club in earlier changing rooms with its next comments.
The veteran claimed that the leadership group had a “big effect on the players and to take some responsibility. That is probably the keyword here, ensuring that players and especially the leadership group take responsibility for what is going on.”
United takes on Chelsea in Old Trafford on Saturday at 17:30 BST in what already feels like a vital collision in the season.
