How to Solve Today’s Wordle
How to play Wordle
Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or less. After each guess, the game provides feedback to help you get closer to the answer:
- Vegetable: The letter is in the word and in the right place.
- Yellow: The letter is in the word, but in the wrong place.
- Gray: The letter is not in the word at all.
Use these clues to refine your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot, or even me, your humble narrator. See the rules for Competitive Wordle at the end of this post.

Wordle Bot Analysis
Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot here.
CRATE was an excellent starting word, leaving me with only seven possible solutions. I threw in SPARE almost without thinking, realizing too late that this wouldn’t really limit my options much (unless I was lucky enough to get it in half, which I wasn’t). Luckily, even with 4 solutions left, I lucked out with GLARE, which is what the Wordle Bot says it would have chosen in my situation as well. So that’s nice.

Erik: 19 points
Wordle bot: 6 points

- You can keep a running tally or just play day by day. Enjoy!
Contemporary Wordle Etymology
The word brilliance comes from Middle English of glare (meaning ‘to shine brightly, to dazzle’), which probably comes from Middle Low German of glare (“shine, shine”). It is related to the Proto-Germanic root glaze or clearly meaning ‘smooth, shiny or glassy’, which also gave rise to the word glass.
Original, brilliance referred to bright, blinding lightand by the 16th century it expanded metaphorically to mean a hard or fierce look.
