A house is built over time. It’s not just about color choices and furnishings, but about creating a place that works in everyday life – a safe point for the children, where everything around them carries traces of something. Traditions, old holidays, little memories that remain in objects. And at the same time, everything must contain practical reality: homework, dinners, a washing machine that never rests and a constant monopoly game that no one wants to give up.
I always liked how our salon looked. It was our best place to stay, but also a room that couldn’t really be decorated the way I wanted. It is large, but open in different directions. This means that the flow controls more than the will, and every new piece of furniture becomes a monster.
I like houses where books are visible, where things say something, where textiles and patterns can be present without having to apologize. But I’ve had to let it peel more for a while now, to understand how the rooms are actually used. Now I’m on my way back to something more vibrant: more furniture, more color, more personality.
Here are some photos I saved that capture the feeling I mean when I say safe.

Small corners intended for special purposes, a play corner, a reading corner, a test trolley…

Symmetry and balance in everything warm

Site-built bookshelves and ties

Drum stable and family photos

Fler furniture can be used in different ways

Art

Large pallets or tables for gathering, piles of orchids, cut flowers and roses everywhere.

Game nights and paisley blankets.

Fluffy and cozy, preferably with a dog or two at their feet.

A few things here and there.

Lots of warm-colored point lighting.

How many times have I seen you get mail and felt like someone’s personality and creativity could only be a home.
Now that…
I just start rearranging, adding, maximizing, adding. The biggest worry is always that it will be dark. That things have to cancel each other out. All of that should feel like a mass instead of as a whole. But really: who’s going to see it? Only in the photo it becomes “messy”. In reality, the eye works differently. We see what we use, what we like.
We are in the middle of a change in the salon. We’ll see if it turns out as we thought it would – or if in a few weeks you’ll be standing there wondering: who turned out the lamp?
