Chawinga: This team is my family

Chawinga’s involvement has once again proven crucial, scoring fifteen times in 23 appearances so far.
She is the competition’s top scorer and follows up her Golden Boot-winning season last year with another individual award.
Despite two standout years in Kansas, the 27-year-old is always quick to credit those around her for their influence on her form.
“It meant a lot to me [to break records]but it wasn’t by myself,” she said.
“My teammates helped me a lot to achieve that goal, they convinced me that I could do it [and] it made me very happy to have such teammates.
“To do the things I’ve done, I have to be that [on a team like this].”
In a separate interview with The Women’s GameTemwa built on this by calling this team her home away from home.
She especially emphasized the influence of Lo’eaau LaBonta In both chats, the experienced midfielder takes the Malawi international under her wing.
“I didn’t know anything about the US [before I moved]it was the first time I came here,” she explained on the podcast.
“I remember Claire Hutton and Lo started talking to me a lot. Lo and Claire are so great, they helped me a lot when I settled here.
“It was so wonderful how they received me. I don’t miss my home anymore; I have a new family here.”
The goals, the dominance, the shield – it all means that the championship trophy is now within reach.
Hitting the double with the Current would go far beyond the promise she made to bring glory to the fans; it would mark the moment when Chawinga turned ambition into legacy and loyalty into something lasting.
