CadetBCL is intended for grassroots players, so entry includes all girls who have already played mixed-gender Cadet and/or JuniorBCL this season, but excludes anyone who has played at U15 level or in the top half of U13 level this season or was invited to play in the National Series.
The pilot project came about after consultation with members revealed that there was a need for a girls-only competition at that level.
Creating more opportunities for girls to play at a primary level supports our vision Table tennis United strategy and our Level the table diversity and inclusion strategy, which aims to increase the number of women and girls participating in table tennis.
The need for a girls-only league also reflects previous understanding that girls often prefer to play in an all-women’s environment and that a co-ed environment can be a barrier to participation.
Data analysis confirms that there are enough female players of the right age and level to make the league viable. If the pilot is successful, the event will be considered a full-time addition to the program from the 2026/27 season.
