The Minnesota Timberwolves signed Bones Hyland this Monday. Returning Hyland was a long -rumed movement, so it didn’t come as a huge surprise. Some Wolves fans, however, were perplexed by signing Hyland, who only played for 17 minutes in four games with Minnesota after he had been introduced for the second half of last season.
Point Guard is the clear position of the need for the wolves, so signing Hyland is useful in some ways. Nevertheless, some fans hoped for a Point Guard who is more prepared for a considerable role.
Hyland is a clear depth piece that Mike Conley allows in the starting line -up and will not disrupt the development of Rob Dillingham. Finding a point guard that would not hinder Dillingham’s growth was a clear priority for the wolves. Yet some fans wanted a man like Malcolm Brogdon, who signed Hyland shortly before the Wolves signed at the New York Knicks.
Minnesota is planning to trust his established rotation and use Hyland as an emergency rage. Let’s dive why this plan makes sense.
Hyland is a depth piece that can play for minutes in a pinch
Although he doesn’t play much while he has a two -way contract last year, Hyland is more equipped to process minutes than you might think. Hyland has an average of 17.1 minutes and 9.5 points for his career. Timberwolves General Manager Tim Connelly set up Hyland in the first round with the Denver Nuggets in 2021.
Hyland is a talent in the first round to be a gifted shot maker and microwave scorer. His lack of play and defense has hurt his career. Respectfully, the Wolven Hyland could sign for a reason in September. While the VCU product is currently like a depth tuk, he was a capable rotary piece earlier in his career.
Conley will be 38 in October and can sit on a night of back-to-backs. In these games, and/or as injuries, Hyland can earn a few real minutes, and there are indications that he can contribute if he gets the chance.
It is worth noting that Hyland’s contract is not godified. As a result, if the point of the Point Guard of the Wolves turns out to be problematic and/or Hyland is struggling in the minutes he receives, Minnesota can break the ties with him. In this scenario, the wolves want to exchange an exchange for a guard or one of the many non -signing veterans.
Anyway, signing Hyland is a logical depth movement without risk given the structure of his contract. In general, Hyland is the perfect “emergency aid” for the wolves.
