Three tips: Scheifele plays 900th game in Jets’ 3-0 loss to Wild

The Winnipeg Jets were eliminated for the third time this season on Sunday afternoon and lost 3-0 to Jesper Wallstedt and the Minnesota Wild. Danila Yurov, Brock Faber and Kirill Kaprizov scored for Minnesota, while Wallstedt knocked aside all 32 shots he faced. Eric Comrie made 27 saves in the loss for Winnipeg.

Good start

The Jets actually opened the game on the right foot, beating Minnesota 6-0 in the first seven minutes. They generated stares, but Wallstedt, who was dialed in from the start, put it all aside. Winnipeg ended the first period with a 9-7 advantage in shots, and from the fans’ perspective, it didn’t feel like a bad start at all. They just couldn’t finish it, and that theme stuck for the rest of the afternoon. The Jets went 0-for-4 on the power play and recorded 13 high-danger opportunities at 5-on-5, per Natural statistical trickbut turned out to be empty.

Another short goal

After giving up a shorthanded goal against Carolina on Friday, the Jets gave up another one today. This time, Winnipeg had set up in the offensive zone when Kyle Connor turned the puck over along the boards to put Minnesota on a 3-on-2. Faber joined as a trailer, under Connor’s responsibility, but Connor was caught looking at the puck. Faber took a feed in the slot and ripped it past Comrie, giving the Wild a 2-0 lead late in the second.

Scheifele reaches 900 GP

Despite the loss, Jets assistant captain Mark Scheifele reached a major milestone. Winnipeg’s first-ever draft pick in the 2.0 era reached 900 NHL games played. He is now just 50 games behind original Jets captain Thomas Steen for most games played in a Jets uniform, a level he could realistically reach this season.
