Three-Peat completed: Georgia Gwinnett captures third consecutive ITA NAIA Men’s National Team Indoor Championship

ROME, Georgia – Three-peat complete!

For the third consecutive season, Georgia Gwinnett College captured the ITA NAIA National Men’s Team Indoor Championships as first-year head coach Tom Rees and the Grizzlies defeated No. 4 Tennessee Wesleyan 4-1 in Sunday’s final at the Rome Tennis Center.

The Grizzlies were propelled by strong veteran leadership throughout the tournament, but none was more evident than in the title match, as all three singles points were earned by the seniors through Santiago Villarruel (court 1), Juan Carlos Garcia (court 4) and Francisco Perez Esnaola (court 5) with the clincher. It was quite a task to get the decisive fourth point, as all six singles matches went into a third set.

The final marked the third consecutive spring that the Grizzlies have met Tennessee Wesleyan in Sunday’s final at the ITA NAIA National Men’s Team Indoor Championships, a match that Georgia Gwinnett has won each time.

The No. 4 seed Bulldogs advanced to the finals after dethroning top-seeded Keizer in a 4-1 win in Saturday’s semifinals.
