‘Those emotions are coming out’ – IPL legend reveals why Virat Kohli got emotional when RCB won | CricTracker

Former Indian cricketer Amit Mishra has detailed how the Indian Premier League franchises’ support for players has made the teams almost ‘family’ for players. Mishra has represented Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils) in 10 of the 16 IPL seasons he played in, while also playing for Deccan Chargers and Lucknow Super Giants.

Mishra gave the example of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and how Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians have supported the two through thick and thin respectively to further explain his point. Kohli has been retained by RCB from the start. He also noted that it was completely natural for the top batsman to break down after winning the IPL with RCB in the 2025 season.

“RCB have supported Virat from the beginning. They have never left him. Rohit has been with Mumbai for so long and has won many titles for them. Even after not being the captain, you can see that this is his time and his home. Even with Virat, it was like that. From the beginning, he was there, even captained him and did everything he could,” Mishra told MensXP.

“It becomes like a family. When such things happen (RCB win), those emotions come out. It’s good too. When a team has supported you so much, when you win for them and show those emotions, it’s a very good thing,” Mishra, who has a record three hat-tricks in the IPL, added.

Kohli finished as the leading run-getter for RCB in their title-winning campaign, adding his 15 innings for 657 runs at a strike rate of 144.71. The New Delhi-born player, who is also the highest run-getter in the league, played a crucial role for the franchise in what was their maiden title-winning campaign in the major T20 league.

Talking about Rohit, he has won five titles for the Mumbai-based franchise as captain. The joint most successful franchise won the IPL in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. This currently makes him stand as the most successful captain in IPL history, alongside former Indian skipper MS Dhoni, who has won as many IPL titles with the Chennai Super Kings.

Understandably, many eyes will be fixated on Kohli and Rohit as the 19th installment of the cash-rich league approaches. Both Kohli and Rohit, who currently play only ODIs in international cricket, are RCB and MI’s leading run-getters in T20s respectively.
