Notably, the BPL 2025-26 kicks off on Friday and following the numerous cases of corrupt actions and malpractices surrounding the league in the past, the board wants to ensure that the players, teams and other match officials involved are kept under stricter scrutiny. Not long ago, BCB had also appointed Alex Marshall, a former officer of the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit, to the Integrity Unit.
CID chief Sibgat Ullah, meanwhile, revealed the details of the meeting and indicated that it will be a long-term and ongoing exercise to ensure that the spirit of the game is maintained at the highest level, especially when it comes to match-fixing and/or spot-fixing activities. The CID chief further said that they are trying to ensure that there are no loopholes that can be exploited.
“We sat with the entire BCB team. Their legal people were also there – all of us together. This is an ongoing process. We are working with them. Our CID officers who work at the CPC (Cyber Police Centre), we are working a little bit on these issues,” Sibgat Ullah told Cricbuzz.
“I won’t go into the details, but there are some international standards and some protocols. We are trying to follow those. It actually comes from the ICC side, right? By exchanging views with our cyber police officers from the CPC, we are looking at what level we are at, where we want to go, what gray areas exist here and what the gaps and shortcomings are – we are trying to map this out,” he added.
For fans, cricket, or any other sport, is all about showing their attachment and affection for the sport. As a result, the BCB and CID want to make their joint efforts to ensure that there are no dark places at the heart of the sport that fans love to their core.
“And our intention is to bridge those things so that our cricket, which is a place of emotion and love, remains somewhat pure, so that there is not a single black mark on it. To this end, the CID is working with Alex and with the BCB,” he added.
The first match of the Bangladesh Premier League will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on December 26, while Sylhet Strikers will host Rajshahi Titans in the tournament opener.
