When a car looks this good, it’s hard to ignore. It’s called the SP40 Restomod and is inspired by the 1934 Ford Model 40 Special Speedster. A small car manufacturer in Argentina called Iconic Auto Sports is responsible for the beautiful construction.
Under the hood is a third-generation Ford 5.0-liter Coyote engine that produces more than 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, and features stainless steel headers, mufflers and long-tube tailpipes. The engine is mated to a manual Tremec TKO 500/600 five-speed gearbox and the car has independent front and rear suspension.
Mustang GT350R brakes provide stopping power, with six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo calipers wrapping around 15.5- and 14.9-inch cross-drilled discs, respectively. The car sits on 20-inch wheels, wrapped in 235/45/R20 and 275/35/R20 tires.
The car reportedly weighs 2,623 pounds. The carbon fiber body makes this possible, while the visible interior consists of a combination of aluminum, leather and wood. There are Sparco seat belts and the car has some modern features, such as wireless phone charging.
Company co-founder Arturo Arrebillaga said Hagerty“Our goal in introducing the SP40 was not to replicate history, but to shake it up. Every line, every curve, every mechanical detail reflects our obsession with making the best car we could feel, see and drive.”
Iconic Auto Sports has designed and manufactured every part, making it something very special. The design of the SP40 looks straight from the 1930s, but the wide wheels and headlights reveal the modernity of the hot rod, which the company artfully conceals in the retro style.
Although Iconic Auto Sports is an Argentinian company, it has an office in the United States and you can order one. No prices are available, but since the car is custom built, we doubt it’s cheap.
