This is where Swedes will travel in 2026 – Travel Friday

Every now and then there is a rattle in the email basket of various press releases from various companies in the travel industry. There are travel agents here and experts there. And of course I read the reports, traveling is my great interest and of course I want to stay informed. But when it comes down to it, I’m most interested in knowing what it looks like “in real life” with friends and acquaintances. What types of trips appeal to them, what destinations do they dream of in the cabins and what trips have they actually booked?

True to tradition, I recently asked a question about 2026 travel plans on my Facebook account. Let’s see where the Swedes (in my private FB feed) will travel in 2026! To begin with, we can say that Koh Lanta, Karlskrona and various padel trips are overrepresented, since it is my private circle that answered the questions.

Swedes will travel here in 2026

  • Norway, Belgium and Karlskrona: This year the plans are for Norway, as the daughter has moved to Bergen, probably by car along the south coast via Stavanger and to Bergen this summer. The son’s wish list includes a trip to Belgium and going to a karate camp there. And of course there will be a few summer weeks in the Karlskrona archipelago.
  • Ireland: For us it will be a long weekend in Ireland to see an artist that our eldest child greatly appreciates. That’s the only plan so far.
  • Fjällen, USA and home holiday: Every year ski holidays in the Swedish mountains and a trip to Chicago are on the agenda this spring, but since holidays at home were 100 out of 100 this summer, it will be the same again this year. With swimming and sun in the archipelago (I hope).
  • Norway and Karlskrona: Ski trip to Hemsedal, Norway. Otherwise we will mainly be sailing at home in the Karlskrona archipelago this summer.
  • Australia: Tour through Australia with a long-awaited visit to the Sydney Opera House.
  • Vietnam and the mountains:“Start the year in Vietnam, go downhill in Branäs on the sports holiday. Then we’ll see what the rest of the year has to offer.
  • Tanzania, Italy and the United Kingdom: We start the year in Tanzania, then a trip to Rome. Then we fancy a walk in the Lake District of Great Britain.
  • Albania and hiking: Dreaming of Albania. A bit of walking everywhere, both here at home and in all kinds of places.
  • South Korea, Christmas markets in Europe and spas in Sweden: Celebrating 30 years of marriage by returning to South Korea, this time in the fall. It will also be a cottage summer in Sweden, somewhere we have not been before. Would also like to go to a Christmas market somewhere in Europe. First there will be a spa with the daughter (Yasuragi or Ad Astra) in January. We think it’s most cozy in winter.
  • Festivals: I have no fewer than three festivals booked for next summer. Maybe not a trip per se, but a “relaxing”/energetic activity. One at home, one in the city and one in my old community.
  • Scotland, Dalarna and weekend in Europe etc: This spring I’m going to Edinburgh with the family to celebrate my sister’s birthday and then I’m going to the countryside in Dalarna. It will also be a weekend somewhere with old classmates, maybe Palma. If I can afford it, it will be a mountain holiday and/or a trip to Sicily to visit friends as well. Then your home base in Nynäshamn is beautiful, where there is much to discover and do. Otherwise, I have a strong desire to travel to various places in Eastern and Central Europe, which I was not so interested in before, and a car holiday in the USA would also be exciting.
  • Brazil, Karlskrona, Gotland and Southeast Asia: He will leave for Brazil in mid-March for 3 to 4 weeks. My partner is from there and is skilled at planning the trips so it’s not that expensive. In July to Karlskrona in search of the family’s roots in the maritime environment (18th and 19th centuries). According to tradition, Fårö will last 1 to 2 weeks in August. A must. And finally in November Southeast Asia, especially Vietnam. I was there for the first time in 2023 and was very impressed. Not least the fresh and good food. And see both the big city and the countryside. The traffic in Hanoi is an organized chaos. That is, despite the huge amount of motorcycles and cars, traffic flows and it is possible to cross these streets without any problems when I realized that it is “normal” to cross the street calmly and at an even pace.
  • France: Our family is going to the south of France, where my husband was a missionary. They will have a reunion there. Of course we take the opportunity to stay. I love France!
  • Maldives, Norway, USA and Croatia: Maldives for me and M (belated 40th birthday gift). Sports holiday: skiing in Norway, as a family. June: Malta, as a family. July: Texas, USA, as a family. September: Croatia will probably celebrate 20 years of wedding anniversary with M.
  • Slovenia: My husband and I are celebrating 30 years of marriage. I was thinking about a trip to Slovenia (if the babysitter works out).
  • If: Celebrating the New Year in Kerala, India. The Ayurveda journey has been ticked off my bucket list.
  • The Caribbean and the mountains: Trying a longer cruise in warmer countries for the first time, 10 days in the Caribbean in January. Funäsdalen sports holiday and hiking in the mountains in the summer, so a few different types of trips. But nice to vary!
  • Thailand, Bali, ski trip and Nepal: Thailand, Bali, Åre or the Alps (not yet recorded) and Nepal (Mt Everest).
  • Cape Verde, Germany, Croatia and Sweden: Was in Cape Verde a year ago and had no plans to go there again, but there was a gap between two jobs and then it felt good to refuel and bathe and know what we are getting! Tantkulturresa which is currently leaning towards Germany. I’m celebrating my 50th birthday on one of my absolute favorites, the island of Ciovo opposite Split in Croatia. A place I would like to return to (often). Then I want to experience Sweden further after riding in Dalarna and Jämtland this year.
  • Thailand, the mountains, Spain and the mountains: We go to our paradise Koh Lanta on Christmas Eve and stay until January. Ski trip to Åre during the Easter holidays. Padel trip to Spain and Estepona in May. Mallorca 2 weeks in July/Aug (guaranteed sun needed during the holidays). Standing tradition with childhood friends on the second weekend of October, walking in Sälensfjällen. Then it’s Thailand again in December/January.
  • Vietnam!
  • United Kingdom and Cape Verde: On the way to Nottingham to watch football with the boys, then Cape Verde is on the agenda with the partner.
  • Great Britain and Romania: January will be a football trip to London. Summer probably Romania.
  • Indonesia, the mountains, Norway and Slovakia: On the wish list is Indonesia, where the son’s girlfriend is from. I hope to be able to visit many of the country’s different islands this summer. Winter holiday in the Swedish mountains, a May trip to the Norwegian west coast. And then hopefully in October a train trip to Slovakia for walking.
  • South Africa: Vineyard, golf and safari.
  • Iceland, Spain and Greece: Iceland in April during a long weekend, Spain in May during a padel trip and a boat trip to Greece sometime in the summer!

Myself then? Well, back to Thailand soon (hooray!) and later in the spring I’m looking forward to a long-awaited trip to Scotland. Hopefully we will also come on a family trip to Madeira. I’m also going to book a nice destination with Lisa, who also has one fantastic booked an exciting trip to India in March. Read more here: I’m going to Kerala
