What is the point of going off-road if you can’t take a dozen of your best friends for the ride? That is the idea behind the appropriate name Longcruiser Overlanding Rig, and nothing better embodies the spirit of Overland. Built from a real-deal limousine, this monster started life as a regular J80 series Lexus LX450 with a standard 215 hp 4.5-liter 1FZ inline Six engine, but don’t worry, that has now disappeared. More about that later. Originally built in the mid -1990s, this machine is said to be celebrated around the entire country house of well -to -do people in Brooklyn, New York. According to the guy who now owns it, Biggie Smalls once drove in and has a 29 feet drive shaft with three carriers to get all that power on the rear axle.
Full disclosure: I went to Overland Expo MTN West in an official capacity as part of my sales director Tasks for Land Moto. The company paid for my trip, food, shelter and continues to the exhibition. None of this changes my opinion about the event, or this Land Cruiser, I would have loved it anyway.
All attributes of his former limousine life are still intact, because the truck still wears a huge wrap-Around sofa over real deal granite tile floors, a champagne fridge and a giant television. The stretch is usually there, although it doesn’t look as fresh and clean as it ever did. I find it funny that both ends built by Toyota still look pretty good, but the lumps of steel and bondo that keep it together are quite beaten.
Now the lung cruiser is out to party.
Festive time, excellent
Overland is currently one of the most popular segments of car enthusiasts, and it is expected to continue to grow as more Americans want to come from Dodge and want to escape the rat race during their free time, or at least look like they are doing that. The lung cruiser has been struck with the overland accessories a few thousand times, and this is the result. Your required roof racks, many of them, are in place to hold the pop-up tent and traction boards, as well as a light scad of lights. It goes without saying that this truck has more money value in its Baja design lighting than in the truck itself.
Of course it has lockers, why do you even ask? With an off-road rig so serious, you need 4.88 gears, middle and rear lockers, a lift kit and fresh kenda stickers to get where you are going. No, it doesn’t have a good breakover -Invalshoek, that’s why it has a nice winch on the bumper. Yes, it has probably been under water a few times, based on that surface rust in the middle section, so it absolutely needs the snorkel.
So what’s under the hood now? At the beginning of 2024, the Stock Inline Six gave up the mind when he put a headscarf in the middle of a road trip. A little more than a year later, the truck was again commissioned with a fresh 5.3-liter General Motors LS V8 engine and 4L 65th automatic transmission pulled from an suburbs, something with more than enough torque to turn that super long drive shaft.
Tall boy
More autoculture should be like that. This guy does it out of love for the game and to smile on the faces of people. Of course, some of the Toyota Weenies will nag about replacing the far-superior Japanese engine with a boring old LS small block, but sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. Build one thing, road trip it, break it, repair it, show it, travel through the country, with living events. Come on, that’s the right enthusiasm. Yes, there is no way in which this gigantic thing will make up for the most paths with Moab, and it probably can’t do the rubicon, or compete with King or Hammers. For those of us who have more fun to hang around in the camp and drink a few cold with the people before they return to a roof tent, the lung cruiser is king.
