The New Orleans-Pelikans enter the 2025-26 season with a deep and well-rounded collection of players. However, if there was one area that could improve this team, this would be their wing depth. To be more specific, the Pelicans must try to add a versatile defense wing, because this team misses a point of attack defender outside of Herb Jones.
The Pelicans may have just found their answer to this problem after NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Dallas Mavericks are looking for Olivier-Maxence Prosper.
O-Max is an exciting young wing that offers a ton on both ends of the floor. He is a very good defender on the ball and can help to generate sales in the passing lanes. Prosper is also a great athlete and could ever develop into a knockdown outdoor shooter.
The Mavericks have an overwhelming amount of depth on the wing/forward place, making it a no-brainer to start shopping, because they don’t have the minutes to develop it. With Klay Thompson, Cooper Flagg, PJ Washington, Naji Marshall and Caleb Martin all play for him, it is in both the Mavericks and the best importance of Prosper to go their own way.
What Dallas does need is to play a guard. With Kyrie Irving expects to miss the following season, the MAVs need all the help they can get at Point Guard. The addition of D’Angelo Russell was good, but outside of him they are still extremely thin.
This is something the Pelicans could help with, because they play an overwhelming amount of guards when they play healthy and be interested in a chance of Porsper.
Mays Mays with a Fan Favorite
I know that no pelicans fan wants to hear this, but Jose Alvarado is the most valuable trading ship in this team and would be exactly what the Mavericks are looking for in an O-Max trade.
Jose would fit perfectly with the Mavericks if they try to build a defensive Juggernaut. Alvarado would simply be a grim crowd that contributes to their already stacked defensive staff. Apart from the fact that they just fit their playing style, Alvarado would also give the mavs a real back -point guard – someone they can trust to come in and run the show when Russell is on the couch.
With the additions of Jeremiah Fears and Jordan Poole this season outside the season, the Pelicans have a lot of pointed depth in the future. With Alvarado who may be a free agent next summer, it is crucial for New Orleans to continue from him before he walks away for nothing.
Although the exchange of a proven guard such as Jose may sound like a crazy risk for unproven young talent, it is one that Joe Dumars must be willing to take. Prosper has incredible defensive tools, and although his attacking game still needs to surround him with the attacking talent of the Pelicans, it will make it easier to hide his struggles.
