Think twice about the use of numbers supplied by the AI overviews of Google

Most AI tools have disclaimers that some of the information they offer may not be actually. But this has not prevented companies from rolling out chatbots to more apps and search engines, which leads to many cases in which tools are incorrect.

The AI overviews of Google Search have become viral several times because of these actually lack of answers. However, users now report another problem: Google’s AI compilations offer incorrect numbers for customer support – instead of people to scam numbers.

Business owner Alex Rivlin Share his experience on Facebook and noted that Google’s AI overviews have directed him to a scams telephone number (via Digital trends). He met the scam when he tried to contact Royal Caribbean customer support to book a shuttle for an upcoming cruise and the number of the AI answer. But after sharing his credit card details with the person he called, his card was charged for various unauthorized purchases.

Rivlin is not the only person who has encountered this problem. In a message on Reddit, user Stimpy3901 Said that when they googled “how to repair a wrongly spelled name on Southwest”, the AI overview gave a scam number. The user said that if you call the number, the scammers try to charge you hundreds of dollars to change the ticket.

Another Reddit user, ScotiaminotiaReleased the same problem when trying to contact British Airways. However, they have noted that the result has been resolved three months ago since the problem.

However, these AI answers do not only recommend scolding numbers. In July, Reddit -user Pudding -Responsible said that an AI overview ordered customers of one company to contact one of his customers instead. According to The Washington PostA Google spokesperson said the company has been aware of the problem and has taken action against certain scammer. It also works on improving the results.

However, if you prefer to be careful, make sure that you only take contact numbers of official business websites. AI overviews have been wrong about simple facts, such as what year it is in the past. The tool has also made up meanings for fake idiomas. Better information about the double check for yourself, so that you can prevent scam.
