These are what you think are the best American cars money can buy – Jalopnik

If you ask me, American cars are going through a bit of a renaissance right now. In virtually every market segment (except compact sedans), there are at least one or two American vehicles that are legitimately very attractive options, and that hasn’t always been the case. If I’m honest, American cars have been pretty crappy for most of my life, but I think the tides may be changing, and that influx of new and exciting metal brings me to the question I asked you last week, lovely people.

I wanted to know what you all thought the best American car on sale today was, and for the most part you delivered. We have vehicles from virtually every corner of the market, from budget EVs and supercars to the best super sedans around and Baja-ready trucks. Sure, there were a few of you who got all pedantic about what an “American car” is, but that’s not a conversation I’m interested in, so I’m going to ignore you. Anyway, why don’t you keep reading to see which American cars your fellow Jalops consider the very best?

Ford Maverick hybrid

The Ford Maverick Hybrid is currently the best American-made vehicle, and the Chevy Trax is right up there with it.

These aren’t exciting choices, but consider the ability to do virtually everything that 95% of owners would use it for and the cost to purchase and own the vehicles.

They are safe, do well in terms of reliability and can move the family (tightly) for not much $$$.

Boring choices, but the pragmatism is difficult to argue with.

Clear sky

Lucid Air, after driving one now, I was completely blown away by the luxury, the power and the style. Dogwalks the Model S, and the Taycan for me. For the 100,000 range, I don’t think I would rather buy another CAR.

Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing

I’d say the CT5-V Blackwing is the best American car on sale today.

Big old sedan with a supercharged V8 under the hood AND has an optional manual. The only real way to improve it would be to offer it as a station wagon.

CT5 V Blackwing without a doubt.

It’s a shame that Cadillac is trying to draw more attention to their EVs, I don’t think I’ve ever seen an ad for it. My wife had no idea what it was when I came home one day (no, I didn’t make a surprise $120,000 purchase or I’d say ex-wife).

Chevy Corvette

Brand new car ?? honestly I want to say Ford GT 3rd generation, Czinger 21C or even Saleen S7 twin turbo

but I’m going to vote for the Chevrolet Corvette C8, not only you have a lot of equipment to choose from depending on your budget, from just a base trim at $80,000, to $140,000 for the N/A flathead V8 Z06 that competes with the Ferrari 458, to $200,000 for the Twin-Turbo V8 ZR1 that competes with the Ferrari F8 Tributo, and even the next $ 240,000 for Twin-Turbo V8 with hybrid that might give Ferrari SF90 a run for its money

Of course, most people on a tight budget can probably only buy basic equipment that costs less than $100,000, which is more than fast enough for most people. But even with the highest equipment it still costs much less than its Italian exotic rival with a similar powertrain, configuration and setup. Even if you choose the most expensive ZR1X trim, it will still cost much less than the Ford GT or Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo, even without adjusting for inflation, although some will argue that the Ford GT and Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo are limited production.

And that’s before we count the possibility of a used Corvette C8 on the used car market in 5-10 years, which will certainly be much more affordable for normal people like me.

Ford F-150 Raptor R

If you narrow this down to just an American CAR and not a “vehicle” like trucks, CUVs and SUVs, then it has to be the Corvette – any model. I think I’m in the minority who REALLY like the exterior, because it has a look and a sound that not many other cars have. Of course I’ll go for the ZR1, but for everyday driving I agree with your E-Ray. If we count all the vehicles, I’m going with the Ford F-150 Raptor and Raptor R. No oversized pickup that weighs over three tons should be able to move like it does and still be a capable pickup. That’s what the Syclone started with 35 years ago and it was so badly tarnished that it could hardly be called a pickup. But if you put the Raptor in the middle of a small European town or somewhere in the middle of nowhere in Africa, people who had never seen anything like it before would flock to it, given the sheer audacity it has to even exist and especially because it does everything it’s supposed to do as a truck. (And it’s still too big for many garages and parking lots…)

Cadillac Celestiq

I think American cars are having a bit of a renaissance, which is something I don’t think I could ever see myself saying. I can think of a lot of great ones right now, but not one that I would notice on Stellantis’ part, although when they were making V8s they were definitely painting Mona Lisa somewhere.

But the one I was hoping someone would mention is the Celestiq. Seriously, Cadillac has been on top of their releases lately and they’ve really found a way to make a much more desirable electric car than a Rolls-Royce. The only car I would want more at that price is a Mustang GTD, my number two, but the only reason it’s not #1 is because I can’t justify driving that fast on public roads (yes, for the ZR1, and before you say anything, remember that a Miata is slower than the Elantra N and I’d rather drive the Miata).

But even if these aren’t on the list, I’m sure much of what is suggested still can’t go wrong.

Ford Mustang

I have to say the Mustang is the best car out there.

Acura Integra Type S

Acura Integra Type S. The question did not state that it had to be an American manufacturer. The Integra is built in America and the Acura brand is almost entirely for the North American market.

Chevrolet Equinox EV

The Chevy Equinox EV. I want to say the Bolt, but since it’s currently on hiatus, I’ll go with its big brother.

It is the most affordable EV that does not compromise on range. Of course, if you have unlimited money, Lucid makes a great car. Or if you have almost unlimited money and want to go off-road, Rivian trucks/SUVs are great. But for me, the best measurement should also include the price tag, and you absolutely can’t get a better EV value (range) for your money than the Equinox EV.
