QPR welcome Sheffield Wednesday to West London for a Championship match on Sunday, as The72 writers make their predictions for the match.

QPR has had a stable season so far under manager Julien Stephan.

Despite back-to-back defeats, with the R’s losing 2-1 at home to Norwich City on New Year’s Day, QPR sit 12th in the league. Championship table at the moment, and a whopping 42 points above Sheffield Wednesday.

SWFC remains rooted at the foot of the table. Henrik Pedersen’s side are on -7 points and lost their New Year’s game against Preston and are winless in 18 points, with Sheffield Wednesday’s injury list particularly long at the moment.

But the loyal Owls feel positive. Sheffield Wednesday have named James Bord and his consortium as preferred bidder and the administrators are working tirelessly to get the South Yorkshire club back under ownership and back on a positive track.

And the Owls have a good recent record against QPR, so a win on Sunday could be a possibility. Sheffield Wednesday are unbeaten in their last five against the R’s and have won three, with the Hoops having beaten Wednesday just once since 2019.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Luke Phelps

“The wait for a win in Sheffield Wednesday continues.

“But there’s something about this game that feels really nerve-wracking from a QPR point of view: they’re in patchy form and desperately need a win, so a game against Wednesday feels like a high-pressure game for Stephan.

“SWFC, meanwhile, have looked decent in their last few games; against Hull City and Blackburn Rovers, but not so much against Preston. A point here would be a good result for Wednesday.”

“As much as I would love to see them win, I just don’t think they have the players for that.”

Prediction: QPR 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

James Ray

“We have seen Sheffield Wednesday work their way to some good results on the road and with QPR in patchy form the Owls may feel there is an opportunity for them to achieve something here.

“There’s no hiding the fact that this is a mismatch at full strength. The Hoops are brilliant at their best but they haven’t been at that level recently.”

“But ultimately it’s hard not to go for a home win. Loftus Road has been a happy place for the R’s and I don’t see them faltering at the hands of this SWFC side. I’m going for a pretty routine Hoops triumph.”

Prediction: QPR 2-0 Sheffield Wednesday
