England have been placed in Group C along with West Indies, Nepal, Italy and Scotland. Scotland recently replaced Bangladesh, which Chopra believes has weakened the group significantly. He also felt that the flat nature of the wickets in India would be suitable Harry Brook guided side.
“The biggest strength of this team is that their matches take place in fantastic places. Firstly, they are in an excellent group. Earlier it looked like their group would be very entertaining because West Indies, England and Nepal are good teams, and Bangladesh are a decent team in these conditions,” he said on his YouTube channel ‘Aakash Chopra’.
“But Bangladesh no longer exists. Scotland has come. Scotland generally gives England a bit of trouble, but I think they won’t be able to do that here, and Italy won’t be able to do that either. They should qualify easily. Their task has become easy,” he noted.
While praising the Three Lions’ batting style and depth, the top commentator believes they have the power to bully the opposition, especially at venues such as Wankhede Stadium and Eden Gardens.
“All their matches are in Kolkata and Mumbai. They play on flat pitches. There can’t be better conditions than these to hit sixes. So they can actually bully the opponent. They have that kind of batting depth. So that will be one of the strengths,” Chopra noted.
‘They have firepower’ – Aakash Chopra on England’s explosive batting power
The former Delhi batsman further believes that England have the strongest batting line-up with big hitters like Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Harry Brook and Jacob Bethel in their arsenal. And this will be their strategy to dominate the opposition.
“Secondly, they have hitting power, absolute firepower. In the top eight, Sam Curran hits the slowest, and even his strike rate is 131.6. It means that in batting there are many fantastic players who hit a lot,” he concluded.
England are currently involved in a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka and have won the opening match of the series.
