A man went viral on TIKTOK after he accused his mechanic of some shady behavior – to strengthen the employee, took his car for a personal twist.
User @gelsadas02 reported that he had dropped off his avoidance for service, but later saw the mechanic behind the wheel and brought his family to church.
“I just saw my mechanic and his whole family go to church in my car,” wrote the tap in the caption on the screen of his video. In the caption of his video he added: “This is crazy”, followed by a series of smiling emojis.
No other details were shared, so it is unclear how long the avoidance was in the store or that @gelsadas02 confronted the mechanic. Yet the clip hit a nerve with viewers, many of whom said they would have followed the employee right in the banks. At the moment the video has more than 85,600 views.
Can a technician take my car home?
Usually not. According to A local car repair garageA technician cannot take your car without your explicit permission, and this can be considered as unauthorized use or theft, which can break your agreement with the store. They can only ride it during the diagnosis or to verify repairs, and they must first inform you.
If you are worried, there are simple steps that you can take to tackle the problem. Before dropping your vehicle, ask about the store’s policy on test companies and whether cars are stored at night. Better yet, record your mileage before handing over your keys – or take a picture of the mileage counter of your car. If the vehicle is then returned to you, if you notice something suspicious (for example, unexpected toll costs or mileage), you can call the store and request clarification.
Mechanics can take your car for a test drive for diagnosing or confirming a repair, and they can move it around the plot or on a lift if necessary. In the end, however, you have the right to set clear limits about how your vehicle is used. If a technician exceeds these limits, you can reduce and even take legal action.
Viewers urge the driver to confront the technician
After watching the video of @Gelsadas02, many viewers were amazed that a technician would be brave enough to get the car from a customer’s car – only, use it to carpol his family.
“Extra key and he and his family would have walked home,” said a user.
“I would have received my reserve key and let my boy take the car and take it away,” wrote another. “Then go back to church as if nothing happened. Go to the mechanic on Monday for an update about your vehicle.”
Some said they would have confronted the mechanic at that time, even if it meant it was entering the church.
“The way I would have walked into that church, had demanded my keys and left in my car! I would let the municipality know that he was abusing his customer’s ownership,” a woman said. “Then I would tighten a lawsuit because you are probably not the only one!”
‘I would sit next to him [in] Church, “Another joke.
“I would be in church and tell him that he should give me my key and take me somewhere else,” a third added. “And I would be loud to embarrass him.”
Others shared their own stories about mechanics that used their cars without permission.
“I took mine to the store for brakes. I got it back 150 miles later,” said one.
“Many small mechanics do this,” claimed another. “However, you remain safe.”
