The body of Yaron Lischinsky, an employee of the Israeli embassy who was shot this week in a possible anti -Semitic attack in Washington DC, was expected to return to the Jewish state on Friday, said civil servants.
Loved ones from Lischinsky and representatives of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs receive the victim’s coffin at an unknown airport before it is taken to a cemetery, according to a spokesperson for the ministry
Lischinsky, 30, and his colleague and girlfriend Sarah Milgrim, 26, were shot outside the Capital Jewish Museum on Wednesday evening.
Elias Rodriguez, a 31-year-old resident of Chicago, was arrested on the spot.
Allegedly he shouted “free, free Palestine” after opening the fire outside the museum on Wednesday evening. The suspect told officers on the spot: “I did it for Palestine, I did it for Gaza,” said Justice Officers.
Jewish leaders in Chicago have brought the murder of the murder and the blame for growing anti -Semitism from protests against Israel.
The military action of the Jewish state in Gaza, which tries to eradicate Hamas in the aftermath of the attack of 7 October 2023 on Israel, has fueled protest against Jerusalem in the United States.
David Goldenberg, regional director of the Midwest of the Anti-Defamation League, said that calls for Israel to limit military action, too often has been transferred to anti-Semitism.
“Saying ‘Free Palestine’ is not anti -Semitic in itself,” Goldenberg told reporters in Chicago on Friday.
“When the (anti-Jewish) hymns start, you as the leader, you lead you. You conclude it. You clearly make it to people who come to the protest (that) does not take you a sign that says:” Globalizing the Intifada “We are not going to have a sign that celebrates and calls Jews.”
FBI agents went on Thursday through the Rodriguez apartment in the quiet with trees-lined street in the Albany Park neighborhood in search of evidence that the actions and motives of the suspect could link or explain.
“This horror gets even closer to home,” said Chicago Alderman Debra Silverstein. “We have learned that the attacker lives in Chicago and is probably radicalized here in our city. This is not just a national tragedy, it is a local wake -up call.”
Rodriguez came to the DMV on Tuesday and flew in from O’Hare International Airport in Chicago to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in North Virginia, according to the records of United Airlines cited in the sworn statement.
He explained his firearm in his checked luggage and flew over state lines, said the explanation.
