The Spurs want to prevent their defense from falling apart like a wet cake

Tottenham are not having it all their way. Some forget that last time Spurs finished 17th and we lost a whopping 22 games. Since then we have essentially only transferred one big name/reliable signature, Mohammed Kudos. No one else coming in was of the standard to make a decisive difference.

In addition to the rather unenterprising story ‘Let’s fire another manager’, the team is achieving poor results, especially on its own field. Described the defense as disorganized during set-piece concessions, with midfielders failing to clear and centre-backs out of position. Noticed two “defensive emergencies” in quick succession.

Worse still, it has now reached the point where our defenses are collapsing. In the Guardian live blogthis particular line was genius:

“Tottenham’s defense is falling apart like a wet cake.”

The Athletic also focused on this error-prone Tottenham team. Acknowledged a better attack, but highlighted the concession of nine goals over two games as alarming, with mistakes undermining the line-up.

“Spurs have conceded nine goals in their last two games, but they have looked much better offensively… [yet] seriously let down by the defense…”

Tottenham Hotspur are actively pursuing a January transfer Juventus central defender Gleison Bremerwith multiple reports suggesting Spurs are preparing an initial bid to strengthen their defensive options under manager Thomas Frank.

Bremer, the 28-year-old Brazilian international, performed excellently in Serie A but was hit by injuries this season, meaning he only played four league games. Despite this, his reputation as an authoritative, dominant defender – often described as one of the ‘best in the world’ in his position – has made him a prime target for Tottenham amid their push for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Spurs could submit a formal offer as early as January, with first contact expected in December. Frank sees him as an “ideal candidate” to provide long-term stability alongside Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, especially with Ben Davies’ contract expiring in 2026.

No deal has been confirmed yet and Juventus’ financial needs (e.g. financing a transfer for Gonçalo Ramos) could tip the balance. If Tottenham land Bremer it would mark a clever coup in January, addressing the vulnerabilities exposed in recent matches. Keep an eye out for updates: things can heat up quickly.
