The announcement of the India’s Asia Cup 2025 team has caused enormous controversies, in which main voter Ajit Agarkar is confronted with serious criticism for excluding Shreyas Iyer. Former India captain and ex-BCCi-Selector Kris Srikkanth has closed Agarkar and questioned the logic to omit one of the most in-shape batters in the country.

Iyer, who led Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, was one of the remarkable absent of the 15-person team led by Suryakumar Yadav. In particular, he was not included in the five-man reserves, where Dhruv Jurel was preferred as a third Wicketkeeper. Agarkar defended the call by stating that the challenge was to fit Iyer in the side without dropping anyone else.

“Shreyas Iyer. No fault of his. He just had to wait for his chance. You have to tell me, with whom you will replace him? It is just that you can choose 15 and at the moment he will have to wait for his chance,” he said at the press conference.

Srikkanth, however, was not happy with the decision and stated that Iyer should have been an automatic choice in the team, in which Agarkar’s statement about Iyer was questioned.

“In the current form, Shreyas Iyer is an automatic choice. Let’s be very clear. You have to watch recent matches; there is no point to judge a player for a year ago. He scored 600 points in the IPL against a strike rate of 175. Strike rate is the most important factor here. I cannot understand this statement.
