Laura Wolvaart had been made for days. With Southern Brave, a low-like total, she scored one of the coolest, calmest 1950s of her career to get her side home. The score card says that Brave won with only 6 balls, but it was possibly the longest 6 balls in history – as Winher reflects, the result was absolutely never questioned.
London Spirit stopped in a bat and did not get off to a good start – Kira Cathli, who from the sublime to the filthy as a character in one of the 19th -century Russian novels she likes to read, in the first set of one of the worst shots I have ever seen. Spirit then went to 24-1 at the end of the PowerPlay, where neither Cordelia Griffith nor Georgia Redmayne with many games … well … “Spirit”.
When Redmayne – such a critical gear in the Spirit Machine that won this competition 12 months ago – was rejected for a beautiful low catch from Mady Villiers of her own bowling, it quickly went bad to worse because Grace Harris delivered a classic “six and out” – just (just!) Catches for the second time.
Griffith continued to stutter, with her success rate back in the low 1970s in one stage; But crucial hung in it long enough to remind Mady Villiers that Fielding might be easy, but sometimes not – Griffith takes her for 19 runs in a set, including two sixes. This set threatened to turn the tide in favor of the Spirit, giving them a platform to continue to 150; But she blew great. Dani Gibson hit Charli Knott for the first time; When (just) did not get up, he ran out for 9.
This revealed the lack of force in the tail of Spirit, because they only scored 22 points in the last 25-ball phase, with the only border that came pure happiness, after a happy deflection of non-striker Sarah Glenn Glenn, the wrong footboucher on the border.
When he needed 126, Brave Danni Wyatt-Hodge lost early after Issy Wong Charlie Dean had somehow persuaded to judge an LBW that everyone in the stadium except Wong (including crucial, the Umpire) thought that the leg would go into the leg, but it turned out that they would just be millimeter to get the decision.
Wyatt-Hodge was Brave’s best Run scorer in the tournament that came in this game; But today they didn’t need her. Wolvaart and Bouchier took control of the game and pushed just hard enough to stay ahead of the speed while held their wickets in hand. Bouchier eventually lost her concentration and possibly demonstrated why Emma Lamb goes to the World Cup and she is not because she was caught on the ring.
But Wolvardt remained cool, even when Brave’s Run-rate fell nervously towards the end, with 4 consecutive sets between balls 70 and 90 for 3 or less. Others would have been panicking to go for the big hit, but Wolvaarart just turned the strike in the knowledge that everything she had to do; Before Sophie Devine finished things to maintain the unbeaten season of Brave and to catapult them here in the final here in Lord’s next weekend.
Who will meet there will of course be decided. London Spirit could still defend their title – they finished third in the group stage last year and won it – but they will have to be much more convincing in their last match against Invincibles, and hope that other results will go their way if they want to repeat the trick.
