The 40-year-old started for Brighton against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon, marking his 654th appearance in the competition. This surpasses Gareth Barry’s record of 653, which he set in 2018.
It is the third time this season that Milner has made Premier League history. He has the longest playing career in the league, having played 24 years in the top flight.
The former Liverpool and Man City star is also one of only five outfield players to have played in the Premier League at the age of 40 or over, along with Teddy Sheringham, Ryan Giggs, Gordon Strachan and Kevin Phillips.
Milner is also the second oldest goalscorer in the league, which is quite fitting considering he is also the second youngest goalscorer after scoring for Leeds United just nine days before his 17th birthday.
