Eddie Howe admits that Newcastle United is not “close” to making new signing sessions in the summer transfer window.

The magpies have passed a miserable window, in which they miss countless goals, while they also run the danger to lose star -striker Alexander Isak while insisting on a move to Liverpool.

Newcastle has been more lucky in the transfer market, making Jacob Ramsey, Malick Thiaw and Aaron Ramsdale next to Anthony Elanga and Antonio Cordero, both earlier in the summer, earlier in the summer.

However, the Tyneside outfit still requires more additions while they are preparing to compete this season in the UEFA Champions League. At least one new striker is needed to replace Callum Wilson, and they may need another in case Isak is leaving.

Reportedly, Newcastle had rejected an offer worth a maximum of £ 40 million for Yoane Wissa by Brentford, while they were also linked to the frontman Jorgen Strand Larsen van Wolves.

“We are working on income-I would not say that we are close by,” Howe told his press conference before the game prior to the Monday evening collision with Liverpool.

“We still have a little time, but it is going fast. The team is in a really good place, but we are still looking for Callum Wilson. That is the large area we are concentrated on.”

Howe admits that it is “possible” that no new names arrive in St James’ Park before the transfer window is closed. But he adds that the club must be aware of not placing itself in a situation where they have to sell players to prevent the financial rules of the Premier League from being violated.

“We are still active in the market, but every transfer must be good,” he said. “With PSR you always try to manage that situation. We have to be careful with what we do. We cannot allow ourselves to go into a difficult moment when we are forced to sell a player like Elliot Anderson and Yakuba Minteh.”

Asked if he is looking forward to the end of the transfer window, Howe replied: “I will be satisfied if it is here, but happy if we get what we want.

“When you go through a transfer window, there are always ups and downs. It feels like there have been many downs in these, but some big positives too and that should not be forgotten.

“The players we have signed are very good and they will add a lot to the team.

“Of course there is a large, challenging situation that has not been resolved, but from that side I can’t wait for the end of the window, so that we can again concentrate on what we have to do is try to win football matches to be successful.”
