FPL notes: Semenyo misses pen + why Rogers didn’t get an assist

Our next Gameweek 11 Scout Notes come from Villa Park, where Antoine Semenyo (£8.1m) missed a penalty for Bournemouth.

SEMENYO IS MISSING PEN

Antoine Semenyo missed a second-half penalty for Bournemouth on Sunday, extending his run of blanks to three.

To be honest, it was an excellent save Emiliano Martinez (£5.0m), who dived to his right to keep out the penalty.

“It’s a moment where I think we pushed a lot, we had good chances. But you can’t change it. It’s also a great save, it’s not a bad penalty. It’s like, in addition to playing well, they also had moments of quality. Emi Buendia’s free kick, the save in the penalty. They made the difference in this area too. I think Antoine has taken penalties before, scored goals. We have to accept if they don’t go in.” -Andoni Iraola, via the Bournemouth Echo

Semenyo has now managed just nine points in the last four Gameweeks, and sales are starting to rise as a result, with 35,795 Fantasy managers having transferred him at the time of writing.

That’s despite Bournemouth being in second place Fixture sticker in Gameweeks 12-17:

IRAOLA: “WE HAVE NOT BEEN AT OUR LEVEL”

Andoni Iraola made four changes to his starting XI for the trip to Villa Park, with Evanilson (£7.0m) among those returning to the side. Eli Kroupi (£4.6m) subsequently gave way and fell to the bank.

Evanilson hit the post from a corner but it is now back-to-back defeats for Bournemouth, who have won just one of their six away games this season.

There is also a significant difference between their home and away defense figures, as they have conceded sixteen goals while playing on the road, which is the second most of any team, as opposed to only two goals conceded at home.

“I am worried about the first half. We were poor defensively, it is a warning from the competition. Two difficult away games, but we were not at our level.” – Andoni Iraola

Elsewhere, Bournemouth’s centre-backs Mark Senesi (£5.0 million) and Veljko Milosavljevic (£4.5m) have both collected Defensive Contribution Points (DefCon), while Adam Smith (£4.4 million) had to withdraw due to concussion.

BUENDIA IN SHAPE

Villa played European football on Thursday evening, which might have indicated a slower start.

However, Unai Emery’s forces burst out of the blocks against Bournemouth, with Emiliano Buendia (£5.3 million), putting them ahead with a brilliant free-kick from just outside the penalty area.

The £5.3m midfielder has now scored three goals and provided two assists in his last five Premier League games for Villa. Remarkably, he has only started two of those games and played just 205 minutes of football.

Amadou Onana (£4.8 million) and replacements Donyell Malen (£5.1 million) and Ross Barkley (£4.8m) were also on the scoresheet at Villa Park, where Emery’s side have now lost just one of their last 24 home games in the Premier League.

“I’m very happy with how we finished before this break. Competing, being more responsible, even in everything we do, the players maturing and competing. Like we did this month against Tottenham, against Manchester City, against even Liverpool, losing, against Maccabi on Thursday and today – really fantastic, really fantastic. And how we are getting better and better and performing better.”

“The commitment we have to achieve, everyone and as a team, and the connection with our supporters here, with the energy we need, really fantastic. And then the quality of the players. Emiliano Buendia’s goal, Emiliano Martínez’s save, Malen’s goal, how we performed individually, every player with his rules helps the team – fantastic, really fantastic.” – Unai Emery

NO HELP FOR ROGERS

Morgan Rogers (£6.8m), meanwhile, did not get the assist for Onana’s goal. This is due to the defensive touch and the fact that Onana received the ball outside the box and was not the intended target:

He was also wrongly awarded the first assist:

ANOTHER WATKINS EMPTY

Although Villa had a great day, it was one full of frustration Ollie Watkins (£8.5 million).

The 29-year-old, who has been left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad due to an injury problem, played well against Bournemouth.

However, he was unable to convert any of his three shots, including one big chance.

It means Watkins has scored just once in 16 appearances in all competitions for Villa this season.

Another blow struck his replacement, Donyell Malen (£5.1 million), scored after only two minutes on the pitch.
