NHL Rumors: St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks
Host: “So just to stick with the Rangers again, Alexis Lafreniere, a local guy, probably grew up 25 minutes and 30 minutes away from Bell Center. Is that true? Do you think the Rangers will also make him available and move on from him?”
Jim Biringer: “Yes, I do. And I think he’s been available since last year. Some people I talked to said the Rangers tried to acquire JJ Peterka from the Buffalo Sabres, and Lafreniere was part of that deal. And he should be, because if you look at his contract, there’s no trade protection that doesn’t kick in until next year, I believe. So not even this summer. It’s next summer when his trade protection kicks in. So he is a player who could use a change of scenery.
Not everyone is made for New York. Not everyone can thrive in New York. He can still be a good player, but I think he just needs a change of scenery. As we’ve seen around the league, some guys just don’t work with the Rangers. It doesn’t work with a certain team. But I do think it’s available at the right price, but I think that’s more of a hockey trade. Unlike Artemi Panarinwho is an assassin, they want to get that done.
NHL Rumors: What’s next for the New York Rangers as they look to retool?
And of course, Vincent Trocheck is still there. A center. He has a team of 12, no trade, and teams are going to call about him, and have called about him. So the rebuilding, I like to call it a New York rebuilding, that’s what’s going on. I don’t think it’s so much a retool. I think it’s a rebuild because from what I understand they will be moving a lot of fan favorites.
NHL Rumors.com Note: The New York Rangers are open for business, and that just can’t be Artemi Panarin And Carson Soucy is moved. Now that the letter goes out and Lafreniere’s contract is very fluid, GM Chris Drury is taking calls on the former 2020 first overall draft pick. This will look more like a hockey trade, but a change of scenery is a must for a player struggling to find his way in New York.
