The trends on Instagram appear periodically. Its lifespan is about as long as the sparkle of a sparkler. It lights up, crackles and slowly dies away in favor of the next gasping match. Since I love flashbacks of all kinds, I’ve become a little extra fond of the current trend of looking back ten years…
…so until 2016. I was 36 years old and life was basically at its peak. Maybe I even had one of the best years of my life? (Although the best may not have happened, etc.). The future looked bright – I was still completely unaware that both my parents would die the following year.
The kids were 8, 6 and 2 years old – one of the best age combinations ever. Our little trio was cute, funny and cuddly. Life as a mother for this specific group suited me perfectly, I felt the same about life together with Tobias. Just in time for the arrival of autumn, I returned to work after a wonderfully long parental leave. The trips continued, both with and without the family. The blog really took off, as did the Att resa podcast. Let’s take a closer look at this beautiful vintage of my life.

January – March: Cambodia, Thailand and Singapore
After our six month stay in Thailand in 2011/2012 there was an ongoing desire to return to barefoot life on Koh Lanta. 2016 was the year that we were actually allowed to do a long stay again…

…the other in our lives. I wanted to maximize both life and travel – which in turn meant detours to Cambodia and Singapore during the same period.

The whole family went to Cambodia, where we visited a school, among other things.

A few weeks later I (quite spontaneously) met my sister in Singapore during the Easter holidays. Why not, almost anything felt possible this year.
April: Warsaw

When I got home, it didn’t take long for me to get together with Towe/Come and fly with meKatarina/Finally lost (who took the beautiful photos above) and Sofia/Fantasist. We were all impressed by Poland’s response to New York and I have wanted to go back ever since.
June: Philippines

During the summer I had the opportunity to go on a press trip to the Philippines. Me and my tour group got to experience wow views from morning to evening! This country with its 7,000 islands became a clear favorite.
July – August: Gotland, Blekinge, Bohuslän and Stockholm
This summer was maximum, just like everything else this year. We greeted family and friends from near and far.

The summer was largely spent in Blekinge and Bohuslän, with a detour to Österlen with mother and sisters. In the fall I started working again, but first the family had time to visit Gotland.
September: Madrid

A while later I got the opportunity to go to Madrid through an assignment from Travelmarket. My soon-to-be two-year-old joined in, as did one of my sisters. It was my first visit to Madrid! Liked everything except the lack of any sort of water view.
October: Cruise in the Mediterranean

And so the fall continued, with a cruise/press trip in the Mediterranean against the backdrop of an invitation from Royal Caribbean for the Att resa podcast. Lisa and I ran around the deck, went ziplining and admired models on Capri.
November: Slovenia and Germany

In November I went to Ljubljana (Slovenia) for a job conference…

…and from there went to southern Germany to meet the rest of my family. My husband was going to compete in the World Racketlon Championships and I was incredibly proud. The rest of the time we hung out at various German Christmas markets and also visited Playmobil FunPark – the German equivalent of LEGOLAND. It was fun!
December: Scotland

Just in time for Christmas Eve, the family boarded a flight to Scotland to celebrate Christmas with my sister and her family. We introduced the Christmas gift game to the Scottish side of the family, went to the cinema and ate lots of chocolate. Of course, I also took the opportunity to marvel at the British tabloids. After staying with my sister for a few days, we rented our own car and headed to the Isle of Skye, a trip I’d been wanting for an unreasonably long time.
And with this last trip of the year I said goodbye to one of the best years of my life. Yep, that’s apparently what my life was like in 2016. Today I probably barely made it through half!?
