‘The moment I knew I could thrive in the death overs’ – Sandep Sharma remembers how one over to Mrs. Dhoni turning point of his career [Exclusive]

Sandep Sharma started his Indian Premier League (IPL) career as an effective bowler in the powerplay because of his ability to hide the ball both sides. Over the years, however, he has developed into a reliable bowler in the Death Overs, which achieves a number of match-winning spells for his teams.

During IPL 2025, Sharma threw some brilliant spells for Rajasthan Royals at the back of innings. His ability to nail Yorkers under pressure and mix it with slower deliveries always kept the Power Hitters in the opposition -Line -ups that guess.

During an exclusive interview with Crictracker, Sharma was asked about the moment when he gave confidence to bowling at death. The Chandigarh Seamer remembered a match against Chennai Super Kings from IPL 2025. Rajasthan Royals stood opposite Chennai Super Kings in the Ma Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

CSK needed 21 points from the last six balls with Ravindra Jadeja and Mrs. Dona At the fold. Both experienced finishers were well ready and shot on all cyclinders. Sharma arched two width to start over, with Dhoni in strike. The first legitimate delivery of the over was a dot, but the next two went for six. Sharma, however, did not leave the pressure with him, because he only gave away three singles from the last three balls of the over to bring his team to victory.

“I think a few years ago when I played in Chennai and MSD hit and the last one I bent against him. It is that over the peak because we won the game, but otherwise in Chennai I bent in death earlier. Jaddu and MSD both played. And if you keep that game, of course as a bowler, is the trust.

“As before, I bought such a stranger everywhere. But now I am more bowling after 10 overs. Last year most overs were after 10 overs. My first was over 6th over, which is as if I feel the most difficult about the game. And then I am the 3 overs in the course of 10 overs.

Don’t think too much about the outcome and the future – Sandep Sharma reveals the best piece advised received from Mrs. Dhoni

Sharma is often seen in interaction with Dhoni after the collision of Rajasthan Royals with CSK. He was asked to reveal the best piece of advice he received from the former captain of India. Sharma said that Dhoni asked him to try to implement his plans as well as possible without worrying about the outcome.

“It is clear that I have been on the field with him so often when he talks to young cricketers and with me, so many people or perhaps senior cricketers who have also played enough cricket, they come to listen to his wise advice. But for me it has always been one. If I have to choose one, it must be about to stay in the moment.

‘Suppose I will give you an example. Suppose that when I’m bowling with a new ball. Suppose if I go bowling the first ball. So what stays in the moment is the first ball, I am going to bowling. And then I start to feel my release point. I start thinking. Pads, Batsman will convert or score that are as a future and are not in that moment.
