The lack of goals of Celtic ‘Not Rocket Science’, says Rodgers – Football News

Brendan Rodgers says it is not ‘Rocket Science’ why Celtic has struggled for goals this season, although he is looking for improvements prior to their Europa League match against Sporting Braga.

Celtic scored only once in the three European outings this season (including qualifications), who signed 1-1 with Red Star Belgrade in their Europa League opener last week.

However, they also struggled for goals in the competition, but only eight times in Scottish premiership.

Celtic saw controversial departure in forward positions in recent transfer windows, with Kyogo Furuhashi and Nicolas Kuhn departure, while Jota, who returned to Glasgow, was injured.

Rodgers was quick to emphasize the impressive defense of Celtic and noted that they need patience further the field while their new additions are established.

“Of course we don’t score as many goals as normal, but the team still shows a really resilient side,” said Rodgers.

“We have not lost this season. Defensively we are very strong. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to understand where and why we don’t have the goals, because a manager can always transform a team, but the process of a team will always amount to the level of players you have. That has not changed in football.

“It is not a Rocket Science; it was back in the same way years ago what it is today. The players will eventually transform the process of your football.

“So for us we brought in a number of new players, we give them the time to settle. As soon as we have done that, we support them and the players who are here.

“We continue to work with them and try to push the levels while we go through the season.”

Celtic has only lost one of their last eight home games in all European competitions (W4 D3), with a 2-1 defeat against Bayern Munich in last season’s Champions League.

The Bhoys get a very slender chance of 1% to lift the Europa League trophy, according to the OPTA Supercomputer, but their hope to reach the quarterfinals currently at 22%.

And Rodgers insisted that Celtic will give their European campaign their full attention while watching a deep run in the competition.

“It’s very important,” he said. “As a club, we did not deserve the right to be in the Champions League. We wanted to be there, but we are not.

“We are still in a prestigious competition, so for us as a team and coaches and players we are really looking forward to this challenge.

“We go a few real, really good teams. So for us it is still a great tournament to be involved.”
