There are also garments that are made to be seen. And then there are garments made to make an entrance. The garment with the most drama. That’s pretty much how I would describe the cape. This garment is so impractical that I probably can’t think of a more impractical garment. Can you?
It started, as I wrote in the previous post, that I always liked the old Celine dress, which hangs over the dress like a draped cape. So nice. Then the fact that the cape carries such a fashion history probably also makes me extra interested. From the old Hollywood movie with a more classic fur chair to gala dresses to the various cloaks of the ancient world. In the 50s, Dior went to the catwalk of an incredible number of different designers. The cape, like everything else, comes and goes from the trend image, of course, but I think something that it always radiates, regardless of the trend, is luxury and elegance. The cape creates such a dramatic silhouette whether it is long, short, knitted, fur etc.
Currently it is in fashion and we see the scarf everywhere and I think this is something that will only become more and more as the year goes on. Wearing the scarf in different ways, especially around the waist, has already become popular last year. Do we believe that wearing a scarf over the shoulders, so that it almost looks more like a cape, will become a trend this year?
I looked around some of my favorite stores but finally found this cape on Sellpy. Dark brown fur and closes with loops at the front, but perhaps the best part is that it has shoulder pads, which makes the fit so nice. I’m looking forward to wearing the cape over a leather jacket as soon as the weather permits. Until then it has to be indoors, but I also want to try a jacket outside.
Impractical with a cape? Yes, absolutely. Function will have to wait. The drama takes precedence.
