Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada stated that the Edmonton Oil Companies will continue to wait and find the right goalkeeper for them. The Oilers won’t make any panic moves.

Ron MacLean: “They are preparing for an interview for Moncton and Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada. Calvin Pickard comes from there. So Kyle interviewed Calvin about his first seven years of life in Moncton and discussed the start he had at the end of the road trip in Tampa and what it was like. And he is incredibly honest and vulnerable.

NHL Rumors: The Edmonton Oilers’ struggles continue and areas of need are increasing

And that’s the goaltending situation in Edmonton, both men in the crosshairs. Stuart Skinnerobviously, had a huge shutout afternoon. This is earlier. But is there still panic in Edmonton about Stuart Skinner?

Elliotte Friedman: “I still think one game probably won’t change a lot of people’s opinions, but it has at least toned down the rhetoric for a few hours. The point of this is that when they got hammered by Dallas this week, I think a lot of us, including, were like, maybe it’s just time Ron, maybe it’s just time that they make a change for their own good, for Skinner’s good, for everyone, they’re just taking a break and they’re moving on.

A few things. First of all, Skinner didn’t ask out. That didn’t happen. I think a few people were wondering if that would have happened this week. It didn’t happen. Number two: he recently signed. For example, I have to tell you that if it were me right now, I would have been in the witness protection program. So much respect for Skinner for doing it.

And number three, the Oilers have made plenty of calls, and teams call you when you’re having a bad week. And the teams there that have extra goalies, or keepers, are willing to move, like Columbus, Buffalo, Pittsburgh.

NHL Rumors: Tristan Jarry is available, but the Edmonton Oilers are reportedly concerned about injuries

And what I can say is that Edmonton’s position hasn’t changed at all. They’re not just going to do it. They’re not going to do what they think is a lateral move. They would rather make no move than what they think would be a bad move, or a panic move, or a move just to do it. So I guess this is a long way of saying that I don’t believe the Oilers philosophy has changed at all.

Despite the fact that after that game in Dallas this week, many of us wondered if this would be the case.
