The name “Volkswagen” comes from the combination of the German words “people” and “car”, which means “human car”. Because nowadays cross-overs and SUVs are all anger, it is completely logical for VW to develop a cheaper high-quality model to meet the masses. For now it is just a sketch, but the coming EV will be unveiled on Sunday 7 December, prior to its first public performance at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich next week.
Although it does not yet have a name, we already know what we are dealing with: essentially a crossover version of the ID.2all concept, a sub-compact five-door hatchback unveiled in 2023. Since then, the B-segment model has even produced a sporty GTI variant, although that was only a concept.

VW is determined to market the ID.2 as an electric car of € 25,000, which undermines the larger ID. 3, it starts with more than € 30,000 in Germany. The crossover version will probably have a premium, but it still has to be far below the starting price of € 40,000+ of the ID.4. The ID.2 Kruis, or whatever the concept is called, one of the first VW Group EVs gives an example of a front-wheel drive of the MeB platform. Larger, more expensive models have rear-wheel drive, with support for a Dual Motor AWD setup.
The design checks all boxes of a concept car from 2025, with oversized wheels and light bars front and rear. Even the VW Badge on the back lights up, which is not surprising, given that some production models all the “V” and “W.” Lighten. Door handles are missing, but that is typical of sketches that strive for smoother surfaces. Expect the production version to have them.
The new id. Concept looks fairly boxy, even more than the ID.4. Although the sketch shows body -colored wheel arches, the production car will probably accept black plastic upholstery to emphasize its rugged character. A contrasting rear pillar with three slots also helps to distinguish the crossover from the standard hatchback.

How big will it be? Probably slightly larger than the ID.2all, that 4050 millimeters (159.4 inch) long, 1812 mm (71.3 in) wide and 1530 mm (60.2 in) high, measured, with a wheelbase of 2600 mm (102.3 in). Expect a footprint similar to the T-Cross, but with a more spacious interior thanks to the special EV platform.
With regard to the power, the ID.2all is designed with a front-mounted engine that produced 222 hp, good for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time below seven seconds and a top speed of 99 mph (160 km/h). The id. GTI has probably packed more power, although VW never announced its export, with which he only got aware of the hot hatch, he had a differential lock for the axis.

With this new concept that tends to the SUV side, the question is whether the platform could support a four-wheel drive one day. That said, it might not be necessary for smaller models, because the demand would probably be low. It is also worth noting that the ID.2 and its spider -offs not long will remain the access point for VW’s EV -Line -Up. In 2026, the ID.1, priced at € 20,000 in Germany, will take over the role that was once fulfilled by the e-up! A concept has already been shown for the production launch of next year.
Even before Volkswagen floods the market with cheap EVs, the sale of electric cars is booming. The zero emission reasons of the VW Group flourished in the first half of the year by 47 percent and reached 465,500 cars.
