Former South African Captain Van Niekerk has reversed her retirement of international cricket and made itself available for national selection. The Veteran Allrounder announced the decision on social media on Monday, August 25 and confirmed her full return to the Proteas Women’s Squad.
Van Niekerk played for the last time for South Africa in September 2021. She missed the ODI World Cup 2022 because of a single -fracture, which delayed her return as a captain. Van Niekerk also had difficulty meeting a fitness test, including a run of two km. She announced her retirement at International Cricket in March 2023.

Dane van Niekerk made her comeback to the Interior Cricket with the Western province in the 2024-25 season. After her return, she was mentioned in the extensive team of 20 players for the training camp of South Africa, which is planned from 25 August to 1 September in Durban.

After having left the international cricket for more than two years, the 32-year-old announced her decision to return. The all-rounder said she missed the representation of South Africa and confirmed her full dedication to re-give her the best for the national team.
“I am very happy to announce that I have decided to withdraw my retirement of international cricket. Time has reminded me of how much I missed my country and I am fully committed to giving everything that chance,” wrote Van Niekerk in a statement on Instagram.

Van Niekerk apologized at Cricket Zuid -Africa about her previous retirement. The all -rounder said she would return with renewed focus and energy, and thanked supporters for their constant encouragement.
“I apologize to Cricket South Africa and the Cricket family for how I dealt with my retirement, and I am deeply grateful to the possibility of hopefully to express my skills on the international stage one day. I know that the standards of the team and the women’s game will rise and I am ready to work hard to meet.”

South Africa to announce ODI team for Lahore series after training camp
Dane van Niekerk retired at the age of 29 in 2023 after he had not made the team for a World Cup from Home T20 because of fitness requirements. Sune Luus took over the captain for that tournament.
Van Niekerk played 194 games for South Africa, including 107 ODIs, 86 T20is and one test. She scored 4,074 points and took 204 Wickets. The 32-year-old led the side in 50 ODIs and 30 T20is and won 29 and 15 games respectively.
After the Durban training camp, South Africa will announce their team for an ODI series of three games in Lahore, which serves as the final preparation for the ODI World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
