The excitement is set up in the cricket world, with the start of the Ashes series between Australia and England now a little more than two months away.
The Latest Ashes -Gokmarkten Assess Australia as the favorites to overcome, but England is determined to make the opportunities against the hosts of the region.
England’s head coach, Brendon McCullum, has confirmed that there are still places for the picking up for the series opener in Perth on November 21.
One of the biggest debates that number three will play, with Ollie Pope and Jacob Bethell the most likely contenders at the moment.
Bethell recently scored his first professional century in a one-day international against South Africa and is strong in the thinking of McCullum for the Ashes.
“We have a few other fish to roast before we arrive, but I think we said since we have introduced Jacob that he has a huge future for him,” ” Said McCullum.
“He is brought to international cricket very quickly and things come for him very quickly.
“He is going to live some life – 21 years old and being able to play the way he does, and having the head on his shoulders that he also has. He just keeps working hard and we will see what unfolds.”
Opener Ben Duckett and Wicketkeeper Jamie Smith is expected to start against Australia, while bowler Sonny Baker could also be in conflict.
Baker’s ability to wave the ball in both ways could be a useful asset to Australia, although McCullum has admitted that it is still a bit rough on the edges.
Australia also has various problems to solve prior to the first test in Perth, in particular to which Captain Pat Cummins relates.
The 32-year-old has confirmed that there is still no fixed recovery timeline of his lumbar bone stress. He was recently excluded from the upcoming White ball matches against New Zealand and India.
Cummins, however, hopes to return to action in October, which would give him enough time to speed up the series against England.
“I would imagine that I would like to bowle for at least a month, maybe six weeks,” Said Cummins. “But I haven’t thought so deeply about it yet. It still has to wait a bit.
“We have enough time, so we will map out a way when we get closer. At the moment it will be quite light in the coming weeks. Not running much and zero bowling.”
The participation of Cummins in the series could be crucial for the hope of success of Australia, given the injury problems around various other fast bowlers.
Those problems have opened the door for Brendan Doggett to force his way to the team after he impressed South Australia in the Sheffield Shield.
Coach Ryan Harris believes that Doggett is ready to play in the ashes and thinks he can cause problems for England if he is selected.
“He is absolutely ready for test cricket,” Said Harris. “He was mixed a bit a few years ago where he tried to swing and he tried not to swing, but he worked it all.
“He knows what to do. He knows when he has set it up and has to bowling quickly and knows that he can control his pace.
“He is now in the prime of his career. There is no doubt that if Brendan gets a phone call, I have absolutely fully confidence that he can go inside and do a good job in that team.”
