The Calgary flames are in a difficult place like a team – they are in the moody middle, neither the reconstruction nor cracks and wait to see where the next season will bring them. Whatever happens this season, will probably determine their choices for the future, so here are three best scenarios for the fans of the team of this season or the next decade.
Flames set up a play -offshow
The Flames have not made the play-offs since their Pacific Division-tone-leading 2021-22 season. It is not unrealistic to see a future in which only a few of those games go the other way and Calgary sneaks into the play -offs. Maybe Dustin Wolf starts a few more games than his back -up this season, and he steals a few. Perhaps Matt Coronato breaks out and eventually absorbs 80 points instead of slightly less than 50. Perhaps Jonathan Huberkdeau and Nazem Kadri lead a team that benefits from a weakening Pacific, and Calgary jumps up a place in a group of whose only really strong teams De Vegas Golden Knights and Edmonton Oilers are. Given the consistent scoring battle of the Flames, it would be a difficult way, but strange things are always possible in hockey.
Because of these struggles, even if the flames make the play -offs, they would probably not get too far unless they were confronted with an opponent with similar problems. But the play -offs are an important barrier to cross – it offers valuable experience to younger players and offers veterans the opportunity to prove that they still need what is needed. Moreover, the excitement it entails after an always long and often heartbreaking season is worthwhile, even if the end in itself is just as heartbreaking. The end of the Playoff drought of the Flames would bring some of the catharsis they deserve.

On the other hand, while a quality flames would be a nice endeavor at the moment, the ceiling that this current group has without a particularly talented offensive driver is not as high as it should be to go far into the play-offs. If the flames miss the play-offs that, in this difficult competition, still the most of the scenario seems to be their best case to miss as much as possible and win the first pick.
Gavin McKenna, the projected first of the season, is a superst young wing player from Whitehorse, Yukon, who will make his debut this season Penn State in the NCAA. If he became a flame, he would add the only thing the team needs the most (attack) and could be their best player for the next 15 years.
Of course the season prior to the NHL -Try concept of 2026 in a universe where the Flames McKenna win would be a painful one. Even if they do best, it is possible to do and still win – stand up 10 places up in the NHL Draft Lottery and finish only 11th of the bottom – that means much more losses than last season. It may be that Wolf gets injured or not as well has a second full season as his first complete. It could agree hubermdeau or Kadri faster than fans who had hoped, so that one of their contracts would go from inefficient to pain. It can entail terrible happiness-blowout victories and one target losses. It certainly doesn’t seem like a best-case scenario while it happened.
But it would get the Flames a prospect that could be their best player ever, so it would be worth it.
The young players of Flames all take a step
A third opportunity for the best scenario is somewhere in the middle of these two extremes and has little to do with the actual classification. In fact, both these and one of the other results can happen at the same time, which means that it would be a real best-case scenario for the team. In this scenario, all the remarkable young players of the Flames – including those in his American Hockey League (AHL) system and who are not yet with the team – take a big step, continue the team further in a rebuilding much faster than they originally hoped.
Zayne Parekh, Cole Reeschy, Wolf and Coronato are the flames with the highest ceilings – if the stars align, Perekh could make a run at the Calder Trophy and Wolf The Vezina. A big leap for Reeschy would be that he signed an entry-level contract and concerns NHL matches at the end of the season. Hunter Brzustewicz was able to take a spot of defense and play big minutes.
Although the circumstances needed to grow all young players, maybe are painful, and that growth may not be perfectly translated into success on the ice, the flames with a group of young players would make the team exciting to watch and this season would certainly come out as a best-case scenario.
In general, the interesting situation of the Flames means that there are many different ways in which the team could go this season, and it does not lock them in a single “best case” scenario. Although it is not certain that one of these scenarios will be released, the coming season should still be an exciting and hopeful time for fans.
