Dan Rosen of NHL.com: (mailbag) If the New York Islanders remain in the playoff hunt, I could absolutely see them looking to add before the trade deadline. They lost Kyle Palmieri for the season and the defender Alexander Romanov for five to six months. They may get full LTIR relief for Palmieri. They must be active on the deadline.

The Columbus Blue Jackets recently signed Brendan Smith to play on their third pair to see if it works. They might decide to look elsewhere for a left-handed D with some size and grit. It makes sense that they would try to upgrade there.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman: The New Jersey Devils are going to have to move money if they want to make money. They want to do something. No-trades and modified no-trades make things more difficult.

Believe the Edmonton Oilers were also watching the Buffalo Sabres Alex Lyon.

Several sources have said that the Los Angeles Kings aren’t really looking to trade center Phillip Danault because centers aren’t easy to find.

Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Strome has been in and out of the lineup, and if they don’t have a permanent spot, he could get some interest.

New York Islanders forward Maxim Tsyplakov has been fighting for ice and there are some teams sniffing around.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthias Maccelli has not been a pass. Believe there were a few other teams that showed interest before he was dealt to Toronto. Maybe they’ll return.

It won’t happen until they’re healthy, but some teams could return to the Seattle Kraken Mason March.

It appears some teams would rather “top up” player payments when revenues are higher, rather than raising the projected $104 million salary cap next year.

Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson when asked if he could retire after the season: “No chance.”
