On Friday, attorney -general in Texas Ken Paxton A lawsuit filed to remove 13 democratic legislators from their office after they fled the state to block a redistrict plan supported by the Republicans that was aimed at securing more GOP congress chairs.
Legal steps on absent legislators
Texas Democrats continued their opposition to the Republican led Herdistrict Plan on Friday by refusing to attend a special session of the state legislator, reported ABC News.
More than 50 Democratic legislators fled the state to deny the Gop a quorum that was necessary to pass the new congress cards that would add five Pro-Gop districts prior to the 2026 elections.
In response, Paxton brought a lawsuit at the Texas Supreme Court to remove 13 of these absent Democrats, and accused them of deliberately sabotaging the legislative process.
Paxton stated that the legislators’ ‘had absent themselves from the state with the express purpose of denying the house a quorum’, adding that “their rebellion cannot be checked outside the state.”

Governor Abbott’s pressure on Democrats
Republican government Greg Abbott has also taken a strong position against the absent Democrats, called for their arrest and the search for the involvement of the Texas Supreme Court to remove them from his office.
Abbott had previously threatened to limit the wage for absent legislators and emphasized that they had to return for the legislative work of the state to continue.
“People expect their representatives to work,” Paxton told Fox News. “If they don’t appear, we will be in a courtroom of Illinois … [trying] To bring them back to the state of Texas, keep them contemptuous and hopefully put them in prison. “
Democrats are determined about the redaluation of protest
Despite the growing pressure, the Texas Democrats are fixed. Nuisance leader Genes wu indicated that the Democrats would remain absent until they receive the guarantees that the special session will focus on issues such as flood restriction and disaster parliament, rather than distributing again.
Democrats claim that the proposed maps of the Gop focus unfairly on urban and Latino districts.
