Wheeler posted on X, formerly Twitter, that Solskjaer would be the second candidate to speak to Man Utd chiefs Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox.
See below for details in Wheeler’s post, as United look to move closer to finally resolving their management situation by bringing in an interim to replace Ruben Amorim…

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will hold face-to-face talks with Man Utd on Saturday. Understand that Michael Carrick has already met CEO Omar Berrada and DoF Jason Wilcox,” Wheeler said.
Amorim was sacked by United earlier this week and former player Darren Fletcher has been appointed as their first agent.
The former Scotland international took charge of the Red Devils’ 2-2 draw against Burnley, but it appears the club will look to someone else to fill in for the rest of the season.
Will it be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Michael Carrick for Manchester United?
Solskjaer appears to be the leading contender alongside Michael Carrick to become interim manager at Old Trafford, and it will be interesting to see who the club will settle for.
One advantage of Solskjaer is that he has managed United before and started well there, even if it ended badly for him.
The Norwegian tactician has the experience that Carrick lacks at the highest level, although in many ways it could also be worth going for someone who brings something different to the table.
Solskjaer had his problems as United manager and it could be interesting to see how Carrick would fare in his role after an impressive spell as manager of Middlesbrough in the Championship.
For now, however, it appears a new interim manager will not be appointed in time for MUFC’s FA Cup tie with Brighton this weekend, so Fletcher will take over.
