Despite a hectic last few hours of the winter window, the North London club ultimately decided to stick with their current squad.
Tottenham turned down the opportunity to sign Jhon Duran
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed this on the Here We Go podcast that Duran was offered to Spurs as a ‘last-minute opportunity’ as he looked to shorten his loan spell at Fenerbahce.
The 22-year-old, who hit the headlines last year with a huge £64m move to Saudi side Al-Nassr, has amassed an impressive career tally of 54 goals and 15 assists during his spells in the MLS, Premier League and abroad.
The opportunity arose amid industry speculation that Tottenham could end Randal Kolo Muani’s loan early.
The France international has been heavily linked with a return to PSG or a move to Juventus after a stop-start spell in London.
“Tottenham had the opportunity to hire Jhon Duran from Fenerbahce, who is on loan from Al-Nassr.
“He was offered to Tottenham as a last-minute opportunity for Spurs. The club decided not to take it.”
“It was an opportunity that was presented because some people in the industry thought that Tottenham would break the loan for Randal Kolo Muani to move from Paris Saint-Germain to Juventus.
“So that was a possibility, but Tottenham decided to continue with Kolo Muani. He started the last two games, so they decided to trust the player and turn down the chance to sign Duran, who were keen to see the opportunity.”
Manager Thomas Frank reportedly played a key role in the decision, opting for continuity during another mid-season transition despite the team languishing in 14th place.
Duran joins Zenit in shock
With the door to the Premier League closed, Duran’s entourage quickly sprang into action.
Within hours of the UK deadline passing, it was confirmed that the ‘deadly’-striker had terminated his contract in Turkey to be loaned to Zenit Saint Petersburg for the rest of the season.

Jhon Duran club career stats via Transfer market
The move to Russia marks Durán’s third club in just 12 months, continuing a nomadic spell for the former Aston Villa man.
While Spurs fans wonder if they have missed out on a clinical goalscorer, the club’s hierarchy are betting that Kolo Muani will finally find his shooting boots as they attempt to salvage their season.
