Table Tennis England has partnered with China Media Group (CMG) – the world’s largest media conglomerate – to create opportunities to increase participation and engagement in the sport.
Sally Lockyer, CEO of Table Tennis England, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CMG during the official government visit to Beijing last week.
Sally was one of several delegates who traveled to China and Japan with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on a visit aimed at building business, sporting and cultural ties between the countries.
CMG’s network consists of 51 television channels, 22 radio frequencies, three news websites and multiple mobile applications, delivering content in 85 languages to more than 680 million foreign users worldwide. Among them, 11 international television channels have achieved global satellite signal coverage, reaching households in 208 countries. In 2024, coverage of the Paris Olympics was viewed and read nearly 77 billion times on CMG’s own platforms. CMG is also the rights holder for the World Championships and produces extensive sports programs, including through its special sports channel.
The MOU will see both organizations work together to explore areas of bilateral cooperation, including:
Driving participation – publicity and marketing around Table Tennis England events to CMG’s domestic and international audiences, increasing engagement while raising the profile of the sport
Sponsorship and partnerships – collaboration on event activations and marketing initiatives designed to showcase the sport in Great Britain
Cultural exchange – training opportunities and professional exchanges between players and table tennis professionals in China and the United Kingdom
Industry involvement – supporting communication and cooperation between table tennis stakeholders in Great Britain and China. CMG is keen to strengthen ties between the Chinese and British table tennis communities.
I see strong potential for collaboration with Table Tennis England, both around the World Championships and in supporting the long-term development of the sport in both countries.
