T20 World Cup 2026: ‘Just wait and see’ – Harbhajan Singh slams Mohammad Amir for ‘slogger’ comment on Abhishek Sharma ahead of IND vs PAK

The former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has come out to defend Abhishek Sharma after the latter was knocked down by former bowler Mohammad Amir ahead of the clash between India and Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday, February 15. Harbhajan flagged Amir’s comments as baseless, dismissing his comments and defending the solid technique and strokes that Abhishek has in his books.

The cricketer turned commentator was involved in an interaction with senior journalist Vikrant Gupta when the latter asked him to give his opinion on Amir’s comments on the India opener. Harbhajan did not mince his words and bluntly said that what the former Pakistan pacer has said is absolutely baseless. Labeling a complete batter like Abhishek as a ‘slogger’ is not cool, Harbhajan felt.

“I mean, come on, what can I even say to that? He [Mohammad Amir] just stands up and says something. If you call him a slogger, fine, let him hit sixes, but he is a true batsman who has it all. He is a complete hitter who knows exactly where the ball is coming from and plays accordingly. He plays an overcover shot, hits through the point. He can go long-on, long-off or midwicket – he has every shot. After that, you can’t just call him a slogger,” Harbhajan said via his YouTube channel.

The 2007 T20 World Cup winner was confident that Abhishek was all set to play a memorable innings against the Men in Green in Colombo, similar to what he did in the 2025 Asia Cup.

“If I mention real sloggers, some people might get offended, but I don’t want to create more drama. Still, I don’t think it’s fair to just call someone a slogger. Abhishek is a top-class batsman who has proven his worth in the cricketing world.”

‘And just wait and see tomorrow [on Sunday]. If Abishek stays on the fold, he will remind everyone who he is. He has been in your dreams for the past four to five months. When he grows up tomorrow, he will appear in your dreams again for the next six months. That’s it,” Harbhajan said.

For the inexperienced players, the all-important encounter starts on Sunday, February 15 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in a Group A match.
