Sydney house slapped with $300 million price tag – realestate.com.au

Wingadal, in Point Piper, is home to ‘Aussie’ John Symond.

Welcome to the Sydney home that carries a whopping price tag of $300 million – a figure that, if achieved, would blow all current Australian records completely out of the water.

And double the current Australian house price record.

Last year, ‘Aussie’ John Symond took his massive Point Piper mansion off the market, which had a guide price of more than $200 million when it was launched in May last year.

It was known at the time that he, the founder of Aussie Home Loans, wanted a lot more than just $200 million.

That was just to get people in.

In fact, veteran prestige agents Ken Jacobs of Forbes Global Properties and Brad Pillinger of Pillinger were said to receive “multiple offers in excess of $200 million,” but these were rejected and in September a spokesperson for Symond confirmed that the property had been withdrawn from sale.

But new year, new deal – multiple sources have quoted the amount the deal would be completed: $300 million.

None of the agents would comment, but a separate reliable source confirmed: “If someone offered around $300 million, he would [Symond] would be interested.”

If achieved, this would easily surpass all current price records.

It is currently off the market, but would come back on the market if a $300 million offer were made.

The current national house price record is for a Toorak mansion, which sources confirmed to News Corp in December was between $131 million and $150 million.

The exact price will be announced in March. The settlement was supposed to take place this month, but has been postponed because the seller’s new house would not be ready until March.

If Symond sells his beloved Wingdal for $300 million, Toorak’s price will double.

And it would more than triple last year’s biggest sale in Sydney of $85 million, also completed just before Christmas by Brad Pillinger in partnership with Steven Chen of The Agency.

It would also eclipse the $130 million sale of Elaine, also completed by Brad Pillinger in partnership with Ken Jacobs, in October 2024, which then equaled the record National House’s $130 million UIG Lodge deal of November 2022.

It would also completely eclipse the $142 million Sydney house price record for the One Sydney Harbor Penthouse in Barangaroo, set last year.

There is no doubt about the splendor of the Symond estate.

Mr Symond bought the land – 2,676 sq m, the equivalent of four normal residential blocks – for $10.5 million in 1999 and commissioned renowned architect Alec Tzannes for the four-storey home, which took eight years to build.

The house features entertainment rooms for 500 people, covered parking for 20 cars (eight in the garage), four bedrooms plus a two-bedroom apartment, a swimming pool, a 2,500-bottle wine cellar, a theater with seating for 22 people and two commercial kitchens.

Mr Symond split from his wife Amber in December 2023 after eight years of marriage.

He now spends a significant amount of time at his home in the south of France.

Costing $22.4 million, it sits on a waterfront cliff between Nice and Monaco, overlooking the tip of the Saint Jean Cap Ferrat peninsula and along the coast.

The May 2024 listing was actually the second time Mr Symond had offered Wingadal to the market.

The first time was in 2017 with hopes of raising more than $100 million. It was only mentioned briefly, but the second person who looked at it offered $110 million, which was rejected.

Could there be a third in 2026?

Or will a low-key offer of $300 million, or close to it, be enough?

Time will tell.
