Dame Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s prime minister for six years, has been seen eyeing property on Sydney’s northern beaches, fueling speculation that she and her family may be jumping ship.
Ardern and her TV presenter husband, Clarke Gayford, were spotted at a number of properties for sale in the beachside suburbs of Curl Curl and Freshwater and were also spotted eating at a Mexican restaurant in Dee Why.
Ardern became the world’s youngest female head of government in 2017 and won praise for introducing tough gun laws after the 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings and her response to the Covid pandemic as New Zealand contained the virus.
The former Labor leader resigned as prime minister in 2023 and moved to the US for a few years before heading to Britain late last year.

But sightings of the couple on the northern beaches this month suggest they may be considering calling Australia home.
In December last year, Gayford told a media outlet he would be looking for work, but TV was a tough sector and a small industry in New Zealand. He recently produced a documentary about Jacinda called Prime Minister and hosted a show called Fish of the Day. He has often spoken about his love for the ocean.
Last weekend Ardern made a quiet visit to Gerringong, with the local newspaper reporting on her meeting with local leaders at the Gerringong Community Expo.

Rumors are circulating that the couple are looking for a good family home in a beachside suburb. The couple has one daughter, Neve, aged seven.
In Auckland in 2018, the couple bought a 1920s house with four bedrooms, large windows and a terrace.
Based on that home, we’ve put together a selection of Northern Beaches homes, in the $5 million to $6 million range, that may be suitable.
Number 22 Glen St, Freshwater is a new five bedroom house in a cul-de-sac, a short walk from Freshwater village and beach. It will be auctioned through Cunninghams Northern Beaches, but no auction date has yet been announced.
