Adam Idah’s injury-time goal gave Swansea City bragging rights as they beat Wrexham 2-1 in Friday’s Welsh derby in the Championship.
Vitor Matos’ hosts were the better side at the Swansea.com Stadium for long periods but had to fight back from a 1-0 deficit for a win that brings them within two points of their rivals.
In Wrexham’s first real attack of the match, in the 14th minute, Swansea centre-back Cameron Burgess headed Ryan Longman’s right-wing delivery into his own net.
However, not a single Wrexham player attempted a shot in the first half, and the visitors found their backs against the wall as Swansea fired in 12 attempts before half-time, with Burgess missing one decent chance to atone for his own goal.
The visitors still led 1-0 into the 70th minute, but their lead was wiped out when Zan Vipotnik’s shot deflected off Dom Hyam’s turn.
Wrexham then built some momentum as they looked to restore their lead, but instead goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo missed two chances to claim an Ethan Galbraith free-kick in stoppage time, with Idah gratefully tapping home.
Data Debrief: Third time unlucky for Burgess, but Swans fight back
Swansea were winless in their last nine league games against Wrexham in this one (two draws, seven defeats), although this was the teams’ first meeting since 2003.
The Swans had to come from 1-0 down to take all three points, after Burgess had already scored his third own goal of 2025/26 – the most by any player in the top four of English football.
Swansea finished the match with 2.12 expected goals (xG) to Wrexham’s 0.35, also beating their visitors by 22 to five.
While Matos’ team now sit in 17th place, Wrexham are only two points and two places better off.
